I've had this issue with my Yashica Electro CC where the shutter will fire at default or maximum speed in low light and produce underexposed pictures in general. All the battery check and under/over exposure lamps light up properly.

Without film and in a darkish room I could get it to do long exposures if I put the cap on, or occasionally if I just keep pressing the shutter until it actually does it properly. However I seem to have found a fix so I'm posting this with as many keywords as possible so that this will hopefully be helpful to as many people as possible.

On the bottom of some Yashica Cameras you can find an adjustment for what is called a "release rod". It is the rod at the bottom of the camera that moves when you push the shutter button. Changing this adjustment will change how far down you need to press the shutter button before the shutter fires. Please see below for a link to an album of photos.

This rod also trips the latch to lock down the shutter button when the shutter fires. On my camera if you were careful, you could make the shutter lock down as it if was fired before the shutter actually fired. I used a screwdriver to change this adjustment so that the latch locking down the shutter button and the firing of the shutter were as close as possible to each other, and now in low light with high apertures it seems to be firing slowly and consistently.

Don't ask me how it fixed it because I don't know. Although I did just put in new batteries so maybe that was what fixed it.

If this doesn't work I've been recommended to try using lighter fluid to clean the sliding gold contacts and see if it fixes the problem. Also replacing the POD.

I've included some resources that helped me find this solution.

Here is a link to the photos that show the release rods on a GTN or GSN (whichever the service manual that everyone knows about is on) and pictures from the bottom of my camera, an Electro 35 CC. Imgur is what the cool kids use these days but if it ever goes the way of photobucket then you're on your own. https://imgur.com/a/1Nvla4j

Here is an archived webpage describing the adjustment rods on the bottom of yashica cameras. The one I'm talking about is the "one on the right". The picture isn't shown but I'm assuming it's the black and white manual one that I attached.

Here is a forum thread with the *exact same problem* that I encountered except on a Electro GTN:

Hope this helps and good luck. Let me know if you have any questions or comments or if it helped although I am hardly an expert.
