Yashica Electro GT frame counter problem

I recently bought this nice RF and find it a pleasure to use. I was however, miffed to find out the frame indicator is not working properly. Sometimes it won't advance past S, other times it will work until # 8 or 9 and get stuck. I noticed that when I push the advance lever forward the counter will begin to move forward and look like the next number is engaged, but as the lever returns the counter returns with it. Have any others encountered this type of problem? I fairly handy and was wondering if there was a fix??

Hi!

Something is interfering with the arm that engages the gear teeth on the counter wheel that keeps it from returning to zero. Here is a picture of the mechanism:

The top will have to come off in order to check what is causing the problem.

Thanks for the info Russ. Next question, is it fairly easy to take the top off? I have some watch repair tools...
