Yashica GX

Well the GX is small-ish with aperture priority, wonderful metering and a great viewfinder, which is why I wanted one. Personally, I am still looking for a nice GL, which can do 1600 iso but is a bit larger. Both GX and GL have flarey lenses, so I'm also surprised they go for so much more than the others, whose lenses are supposedly less flare-prone.

Do you think it may be the 45-against-40 lens that makes a difference? Or a purely collectionish reason, that the GXs and GTNs are much rarer than the GSNs? That's weird... we should try to see the production. The GX isn't that different from the GSN is it?

What is the slowest shutter speed in GX ? For test i released shutter with the lens cap on and following the GX user manual should be 30 sec before shutter closes. My GX closed the shutter after 5 sec. It happens no matter what ISO factor I set.

In manual it says that only flash that can work fully automatic with GX is Yashica es-20 auto so I have finally found and ordered one Es-20 flash but I am not sure if it is right model, is there a few models es-20 flashes or is it just one?

I never could figure that one out, as the ES-20 only has the one pin on the foot, while the shoe of the GX has two. So I got a CS-202 to match the shoe pins. Funny thing is I very rarely use a flash, so I haven't tested which one works best. Will have to do that someday.

There are two different ES-20 units, "ES-20" and "ES-20 Auto". Unless you compare them very carefully, it's rather difficult to discern which is which. The ES-20 with "Auto" suffix has an extra electrical contact to communicate with the camera body, and it also has the lock screw for mounting on the camera. I'm afraid to say the model you purchased via ebay seems to be the ES-20 with no suffix, which was designed for pre-GL/GX Electros.

I knew there had to be something different. I was going by the yashicaguy site, and he doesn't mention Auto behind ES-20. I never could find one anyway, and the first time I had a chance to get one, it came with an FX-2 attached. I still wonder if the CS series will work in the same fashion.

ps: Got to poking around on that site, and I must say the Nikkor HN-7 hood on the GX looks marvelous. I'd be afraid of the vignetting though.

LunoLuno thats information ive been looking for,thank you very much but i am sad because it is not flash i wanted. I allready have nice Yashica Pro50 DX flash but I want one that works fully automatic with my GX.

This is a really crazy price. I've been watching GX's on eBay for about two to three months. The same seller in the Netherlands has had several black GX's over this time. The auction you refer to ended at 4:20 AM Pacific time. I placed a bid for $276 before going to bed last night at 11:00 PM. I thought for sure the camera would be mine---the highest sale price previous to this was in the low $200's (with previous auctions I was unwilling to go higher than $175). If you look at the bid details there were two guys bidding against each other, 23 bids during the last minutes of the auction. I think their emotions got the best of them, it will be interesting to see if the buyer backs out when he realizes he paid more than double what the camera typically sells for.

I won this one a few weeks ago for $18. It needs some minor work, but I guess it was a pretty good deal.

Bought mine in the spring for just over $50. Came with no accessories, but the camera works well.

In most online discussions between the Canonet QL17 GIII and the Electro 35, not many realize Yashica came out with a smaller camera to the GT👎/GS👎.

On the bright side, things are starting to look a bit better now that I've taken the filter off. Contrast on distant objects doesn't seem to be such a problem. In fact, the lens seems to be more contrasty than I had realised, which is a relief.

Why not use a good medium yellow filter in this situation? I love mine with color!
