Just picked up a "non-working" Professional to add to my collection. Been waiting for one at a decent price, and couldn't pass this up for less than $50 shipped.
Are they worth it to get it professionally serviced to working condition? I already have a GT, GSN, and 14 I serviced myself.

If you did other G-series yourself before then Professional is no much different.

Replacing POD isn't rocket science, you'll do it yourself. Documented many times on Net so just let it sit idle for some days, then read on this, collect few links and remove top cover to see yourself it can be done. I suggest method without removing lens unit, I don't see advantages of this method.

Worse (for my level of skills) if electronic component have failed. But you anyway have to replace POD to be able to check exposure mechanism.

It is hard to get a Professional in working condition. I have one which works very well, and a rather large box full on non-working ones. The Professional is the cleanest looking Electro. I have both versions, the first model with the Professional sticker on the back, and the later one with the emblem on the front.

Frontman, are you saying it's hard to fix these? If so, what makes it hard?

Or, just hard to find one already working?

The Professional lacks the gold plated contacts which came on the G series Electros, and these contacts are often dirty or corroded. The older cameras also have more POD problems. These cameras are cheap enough in Japan that it is more cost effective to simply keep buying the ones you find until you come across one that works. Of the two working models I have, one cost me 1 yen, the other was 300 yen. The dozen or so which don't work were similarly priced. It often seems that the more I pay for a camera, the less likely it is to work :bang:
