You'll love the comments

Bill can be contentious, thought-provoking and controversial, but negative? Not to my knowledge.

Where's the negativity in the forum? I check it daily and still have to find it...

i only object to what seems like bullying i occasionally notice in your posts. i'm not going to waste time finding examples because i don't want to pick at you specifically, even though i suppose i just did. there has been a big influx of bullying and negativity lately and i don't like it. it makes it less enjoyable to come to the last good photography forum left.

I'm sorry if you find my posts to be either bullying or negative in nature. I could suggest you use the 'ignore' button on me, as I understand several people have.

I am direct, frank, and I can be confrontational, but I hope in a constructive way. I've gone off and behaved badly on occasion, but I do try to keep that aspect of my personality under control.

I've noticed negativity here as well and it does suck. Having said that, I don't think think Bill is a problem. Although I don't agree with every thing he post, he at least has the info to back up what he says. Nothing wrong with that in my book. He is direct and that can seem abrasive but look past that and you'll find a very intelligent person.

But yes, there are some people around here that as of late have made this forum a negative place and I hope it stops ASAP. It's enough to make me want to look elsewhere for my camera talk.

So does 'suck'.

My favourite recently: "You can suck at something and still enjoy it."

Well, so I'm told...

Sorry: my only point is that it's impossible to please everyone with everything you write. I (mostly) agree with your view of Bill, even though we don't always see eye to eye.

Cheers,

R.

I feel like I'm present at my own wake. Drunken blokes in the corner, "He wash a good old bloke, once you got past the smell and the automatic weapons fire."

Right on Roger. I enjoy your comments very much as well as your website. I sometimes wish I never learned the word suck, it creeps into my vocab with reckless abandon.

Make no mistake, these are strange and dangerous times for the RFF. With terrifying new members lurking menacingly and old stalwarts starting Film vs Digital threads that border on trolling. Yes indeed, a bad moon may be rising in this foul year of our lord, 2010.

narcissism.

hollow, veiled threat.

For someone so concerned about negativity on the forum you certainly are projecting a fair bit. I have never found Bill to be negative in the mean-spirited sense you imply. He is honest and straightforward and a knowledgeable member of the forum. I appreciate both his knowledge and insight.

bmattock, I haven't posted or lurked here for very long but I have noticed some aggression and arrogance in your posts. Somewhat relentless when you are voicing your opinion. Not that it bothers me...I would just hate to get into a disagreement with you :p

I am assertive, and if I seem arrogant, it is probably because when I have a strong opinion on a subject, I am confident in my opinion. I am not afraid to voice my opinions, and I am enthusiastic about defending them. Otherwise, what's the point of having an opinion?

There are those who become vexed when a cherished notion is dashed. However, this being a discussion forum and not an agreement forum, I don't feel that I should refrain from having and defending a dissenting opinion if that is how I truly feel.

Some people are assertive just to attract attention, which, in this case, worked fine. Of the 40 posts, 25% are from Bill, the others are about him.
We should make it a sticky, call it the "Bill" thread and stop by regularly to argue with him, or about him.
