Your favorite camera that you do not want to buy?

I would love to own but will never buy anything related to the Pentax 67...if I do I'm done...the buying would never end...the thread with Pentax 67 images kills a little part of me every time I look at it...

Film: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Compass.
Digital: Epson R-D1

Both are superlative feats of engineering. Both are hopelessly fragile and and impractical. Both are hopelessly obsolete. And I want them.

I actually owned the Epson R-D1 and had a well-known website on it - now donated to RFF's owner: here.

There is a Le Coultre Compass for sale 2350 pounds.

I can only speak for the Epson R-D1.

Mine still works fine. Many of the Epson owners migrated to the ill-fated Leica M8 and then to the even more ill-fated M9 or M-E. Unlike the early digital Leica rangefinders, there is nothing 'impractical', 'fragile', or 'obsolete' about the Epsons.

Cheers, OtL

One camera I would like to have and I will not buy is the Leica T, now TL2.

I like it as a very well made object and I like the concepta. It could be a good complemet to the M10 ot the M7. I even aready have the EVF. I could afford it (new or used) and use with my M lenses. Or buy the bundle withthe small 18mm.

I will not buy it for a simple reason: I do not need it! And I'm sure one day I'll regret not having bought it when it was time.

I already made the mistake :)

Film: Contaflex- really cool looking camera and I like TLRs; 35mm TLR; interchangeable (modified Contax rangefinder lenses); Rare and very expensive.

Digital: Fuji G50 series- just too expensive. Would love the larger sensor + 50 Mpixels

Fuji GX617 for film. Because I have seen shooting holy land ;)

Leica SL and Fuji GFX50 for digital.

Too much money just for fun to have in both cases.

A camera that I have never owned but would love to is the Leica MP LHSA-Hammer Tone.

I find it most beautiful but I would not buy it because I am not a collector and I would have to use the camera. My use would cause it to depreciate in value and appearance.

Xpan, I love it but sold mine after three years because I don’t want to deal with the failing electronics

Rolleiflex2.8, I have a MX-EVS so my wife just don’t want another TLR sitting on the shelf

add me to the Leica Q. Rented it when I was deciding to upgrade from the Fuji x100 to the x100F, the Q was perfect: the glass/AF speed/manual focusing Except for the 28mm(a pinch too wide), if it was a 35mm I would of justified the expen$e. Went for the x100f and gave my x100 1st gen to my daughter......

Zenit/LOMO Horizon Perfekt/ U500 pano camera.

When I had that I preferred it to my Noblex 135 and Widelux F8. Handling was better, viewfinder was better and it had a great level that was visible in the VF. Lens was as sharp as the Widelux, if not as sharp as the Noblex.
But I sold it as it had random light leaks (a couple of shots on every roll) and the back never latched! Even tho it had a latch it kept closed via friction as the lack of QC meant the build tolerances were off.
I am so tempted to get another, but the thought that this one may have other issues too... And my Noblex is ok.

I had a Noblex 135. many of pictures I took were favorites and professional prints in my office. Still negs I never printed but intended to. Regret selling it.

The camera I would not buy just based on cost.....Hasselblad 907cx. But I would like to try the digital on my film blad.

I originally wanted to buy a Nikon FM2 or FT2 but I realized that they might be too heavy/bulky for my use. I think they are supposed to be pretty bulk compared to other SLRs. They look pretty cool though.

A 4x5" or 8x10" camera. I'd love one, but it such a pain in the ass for something I won't use much. One day...maybe.

The Nikkormat FT2 is a bit heavier at 880g (~31 oz), but the Nikon FM2 is much lighter at 540g (~19 oz). I don't find it to be much bulkier than other SLRs of its era, and I've taken it on multiple backpacking trips no problem. Pair it with a 50mm pancake of your choice and you have a pretty compact but rugged setup. The E-series pancake is not too expensive, and should have very good IQ, especially for the price.

Forest, The Nikon FM series is positively svelte by comparison with the F/F2. it's a delightful and relatively small camera, only a notch up in size from the Pentax MX & Olympus OM. The only downside i found, (& that's only because i was spoiled by the 100% viewfinder of the F/F2) was the 93% of picture view. Fits all that fantastic Nikon glass and is very robust. If i were using SLR, i'd have an F2 titan, and an FM2.

Film

Bronica RF645
Love the style and feel of it, but I already have a Fuji GS645 that's probably going to be easier to repair if needed.

Nikon SP black paint (also Contax IIa)
They look damn cool, titanium shutter, less maintenance, wide angle finder, but again, I already have a Leica M that has far more variety in lens options. "Universal" lens mounts make me happy.

Leica II black paint and nickel or IIIF
Beautiful but not so practical. Since prices for M-mount cameras are nuts, I might give them another try to play devil's advocate.

Phillips 8x10 Compact II and Gandolfi 8x10 Traditional
Too expensive and rare. =(

Horseman VH
They're cute. They have movements. They're cheap. I don't know why I haven't gotten one, aside from already having other 6x9 (more convenient) and 4x5 cameras (more neg).

Hasselblad XPan
Too expensive and not really what I want (too electronic).

Contax point and shoots
Too scared of expensive paper weights. I'd rather get plenty of Konica Big Minis.

Digital

Olympus E-1
The design, build, and feel is top notch. But would I use such an old digital camera?

Ricoh GR III
No EVF! My pockets are big enough. I want that 28mm-e.

Alpa 12 STC and Phase One IQ4 back / Leica S / Hasselblad 907X
I'd have to sell a kidney. Preferably not my own.

Leica M10
If they took care of a few pesky details, then I could justify the price.
