Snorting silver salts
Got my 'Cron 50mm 1955 rigid just last week.
Before, I was impressed with the build quality of my M-Hexanons, which I compared to a once-owned Summilux. That was a ratchity, cheap-Japanese feeling lens. The M-Hexanons scored way better than that Summilux, I never got over the cheap feel of it and sold it off.
The new-to-me 'Cron rigid is built like a tank, very nice click-stopped aperture, I'm souping the first Fomapan in Rodinal at this very moment. Very eager to see results.

To my knowledge, the first rigid Summicrons 50mm were delivered in 1956. Yours must be a prototype, a collectors item. Can you share with us it's serial number?

I love the colours that you have here. Can you let me know what/how you achieved the lovely colours?

Mine isn't on the list because I shoot an R-5. It's lens is a German made R Summicron 50 2.0 w/ the drop in filters. It's the best lens I've ever used other than my Voigtlander 105 Color Heliar. Even better than the Dual Range Summicrons I had for some reason. Must be a good sample, but the one I had previous to this imaged exactly the same. Very 3-D in it's rendering, and sharp as a tack even at f2.0. I went to the R camera because I like an SLR for running around town w/, and it's ability to do close up work. What you see in the viewfinder is what you get on the print.

Since it's the only one I own, I voted for the collapsible. Haven't used it in 6 weeks 'cause I sent it off to Sherry Krauter for a CLA in August.

Just this guy, you know?
The collapsible makes some wonderful pictures. I just got the Black 50, but don't have images yet.
The early crons are pretty iconic, if that is the look you are going for. I hope the later one works as well for me.

The collapsible was my first leica lens with my first rangefinder (IIIa) I still miss that combo sometimes, seems at the time that shooting it gave better magic results! Or I'm mad?!
Only thing I disliked in the collapsible is myself forgetting to extend it out while looking at the develloped neg!

Partly because it is so unpopular, because it is cheaper than other 50's and because it doesn't have a tab like by 35 Summicron (and therefore has a longer focusing throw), I choose the v3 (which you're calling v4) as my favorite 50. I am very fond of the rigid Summicron but when all factors are considered - weight, price, performance, etc. the v3 is my ideal and has been a welcome 'lens cap' to my M6.

Sir, that is one brilliant image, and I don't care which lens it has been taken with...
Very, very good!
