Sadly he had to be put down a week ago because of his age and declining mobility ... it was a very hard decision and I'm still missing him a lot. He had the most beautiful nature along with a level of quirkiness that endeared him to all who met him. :)

This was shot at an anti-racism rally in downtown Dallas, Texas. The rally was in response to a local group protesting the city government's plan to relocate several Civil War memorial statues.

Amidst all the shouting, cursing, and an occasional skirmish here and there between the different groups, I came across this trio of young people calmly sitting in a tree watching everything. If ever there was a true "calm in the middle of a storm" moment, this was it.

Thanks Helen - that means a lot. Incidentally this was taken on an iphone - I think the colour palette and subtlety of tones in what was really awful dark street lighting is remarkable regardless of camera, and insane for a cellphone. The wonders of technology :eek:

During the Ben Shapiro speech at UC Berkeley, a large crowd gathered outside. Here we have a student shushing an inebriated troll, who was very very pro trump. Because of the low light you can't see the cop in the background laughing his ass off at how this kid was handling him.
 
2017 was a good year for me and photography had a lot to do with it. Earlier this year a friend of mine whose business is to photograph local school age athletes and sell the photos to their parents, got me a sideline pass for all public school sports. The sport I was most interested in was football. I started out with a Sports Illustrated mindset but then I remembered that Garry Winogrand has photographed football games when he was teaching at the University of Texas (Google "garry winogrand dallas texas 1974"), so I switched to wide angle lenses. This photo is if a Junior Varsity game. The 8th graders and jr varsity teams have their own facility and I like photographing there. And, since they are smaller kids, I hope I won't get hurt like Garry Winogrand did...

The house I live in used to be my grandparents' house. My mother grew up here. My grandpa, John Westerfield, died in 1999; and my grandma, Stella Westerfield, is in a nursing home suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Grandma loved to paint and draw, though she never aspired to be a professional artist. She liked to paint flowers and pretty landscape scenes. This room is one of the upstairs bedrooms in my house. It was grandma's art room.

My son and I have lived here for a few years now, but we have left this room as it was when grandma still lived here. The paintings on the shelves are some of her work.

The frame on the wall on the right side of the photograph is a display that grandma put together of fishing flies that I made when I was in middle school and high school. Grandpa and I spent a lot of time fishing, and he taught me how to tie flies.

Grandma was very supportive of me when I went to art school, and as I struggled to make a living as a professional artist after earning my degree. I was the only professional artist in the family, and that made her proud.

I made this photograph on September 30, 2017.
 
This would be one if my favorites...
My brother & mother passed over three years ago...with the drama gone that they both brought on, my dad was always in the shadows...over these last four years he and I have had a better relationship...he will go with my wife and I while visiting family, our kids, dinner or any other normal family events...he's finally getting to do things that he wants to do...
This was shot earlier this year in Palm Springs, CA...
Our son flew this Harrier in while doing some Training and we drove out to visit...it was a crappy overcast day and while I shot this in color I converted it to B&W...so much better...
At first I was waiting for my dad to move out of the shot but then I really looked at what was going on and glad I took this one...
My dad was an Air Force Jet Mechanic during the Korean War and he enjoys seeing these planes or any other our son has flown...
This shot ties the two of them together and I love it...

There are some very awesome images in this thread. I thought about this the other day, which photo is my absolute favorite, and there are a few I'm really happy with, but I think this one is it.

We had already had a packed travel schedule for the year, but preceding the election, we decided to buy tickets for a weekend in Cuba, in case one candidate won and rescinded travel to Cuba, which is exactly what happened.

My wife and I brought our Instax cameras and were handing out images to people, the way their faces lit up was something I'll never forget. In this case, an old man was on his porch on the second story, so I snapped one and went inside the stairwell and up to give it to him, and on the way down, I saw this. For me, it just really felt like Cuba to me, more than any other car photo I could have taken.
 
This is a serendipity photo. I was testing some Ferrania P30 in my old Canonflex and was walking down a street in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan that had a collection of old 1700-era historical homes. One of the volunteers, in period garb, was sitting on a bench taking a break and I asked her if I could photograph her. She agreed and shot me this winning smile. Make me smile looking at it.
