Your Gear holy grail/silver bullet?

I've gotten a couple of mine: Mamiya 7II and 75 Summilux. I'd have to say a 50 Lux ASPH and the Canon 85/1.2 are the ones I'm lusting after.

Holy grails are funny things because often they can result in slight disappointment. For a long time my holy grail was an OM-3 which I eventually bought through our classifieds ... the reality was that it never really matched my expectations and the OM-1 remains my all time favourite SLR.

Digital ... where does one start? I bought an M240 because it appears to be the camera that can bridge the gap between a rangefinder and a DSLR which it does very effectively IMO. That said my digital holy grail remains ... and that's an MM.

I try not to buy into the idea of a holy grail - it's elusive, and experience tells me it will change once it has been attained; we are always wanting more and better, though once we have it we quickly adapt. I try to direct my desire for better things towards trying harder at taking photos (rather than buying gear).

That said, I recently picked up a Mamiya 7, after years of finding them way out of my price-range. A good deal came up and I couldn't resist. It really is an amazing camera - everything I expected it to be. But, I also realise that some of my favourite photographs have been taken with 35mm cameras, especially point and shoot ones that objectively are of low quality. While I often lose sight of it, the fact remains that the camera alone does not make the image (nor is it unimportant).

A Leitz Focomat IIc with (!!) the fitting space aka dark-room to operate it properly.

EDIT: Camera-wise an original BP M4.

2. EDIT: It used to be the 35mm Summicron v3 (Canadian-made), that I was about 3 years looking for. Target reached.

A modicum of talent, an "eye" if you will. At 65 probably a bit too late to attain to such a goal.

Silver bullet's? I've bought a bunch of them so by now I must be an expert and so what do you think of that?

I used to have a bunch of cameras I lusted after but never one over them all.
The Mamiya 6 was one of them. Now that prices have come down so far, I own two so I don't have to change lenses. 😀
Other cameras I long to shoot are:
Pentax LX
Hasselblad SWC
Corona 8x10 or 5x7
Linhof 6x12 or wider.

But these days I have the cameras I want. My holy grail would be more time to shoot.
MORE TIME.

Not sure if I'd call any of my "wants" as holy grails, but I'd like to try shooting with
- XPan or 6x12 pano camera
- Polaroid 195 + FP3000B, FP100C
- IIIf + Summitar, collapsible 50 'cron, Elmar 3.5

I have one of my holy grail cameras presently on loan (an M4 with some very nice glass) and have felt too apprehensive to use it - go figure!

A fully working FSU with no light leaks, shutter issues or other great features of former CCCP cameras.

Or a real Leica but I fear I might not be worthy 🙂

I've had some pretty terrible GAS lately, which has been a big waste of time.

After a lot of reflection, I realise I already own my two holy grails - a C/Y Zeiss 50mm 1.4 and the Fujinon 35mm 1.4. I'm just getting a Contax 139 CLA'ed and I should be set. I'd like an X-E3 when it comes out if it can shoot better video.

After a few years of being interested in RFs I've realised that they don't really suit me all that much and the best SLRs I could ask for I already own (what am I doing here?!).
