Your thoughts on Nikkor 50/1.8 AI-S Japanese pancake version

Keep 'em coming, dourbalistar!

Did you try any BW films similar to ultrafine?
I'm curious if they'll have the same crispiness when processed and scanned by you.
Would definitely appreciate if you could post one or two frames :)

Thank you again for the kind words, Sierra Club! I've only had this lens since October 2019, and have been using Ultrafine eXtreme 400 almost exclusively this whole period. Unfortunately, the film has been out of stock for months now, and I'm afraid it might be discontinued. I have a bulk roll of Kentmere Pan 400 that I plan to try next, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, I have experimented with quite a few different B&W films (HP5+, Double-X, 400TX, ORWO N74+), albeit with different cameras and lenses. If you wander over to my Flickr, you can see plenty more examples. :)

Please help me understand why you would go through that effort? What do these type of images provide color-wise, that a full-spectrum color sensor or film won't give you?

I find the trichrome process really fascinating, and it's fun to experiment with something different. Color-wise, these images probably don't provide anything that a full-spectrum color sensor or film won't give you. One might even argue the color is a bit worse, technically speaking. Thankfully, 100% color fidelity is not the point for me, at least not with this process. In any case, if you don't think the process or results are worth the effort, luckily there's digital or your choice of color film. Just not, uh, Fuji Pro 400H. ;)
