A week ago, there was some discussion about whether Zeiss still services the Zeiss Ikon rangefinder camera (the 2004 model), referred to by some as the Zeiss Ikon ZM but by Zeiss as the Zeiss Ikon. I wrote to Zeiss and they replied as follows:

"Service for Zeiss Ikon cameras is now only available directly from us in Oberkochen. For repairs, please send your camera to the following address:

Consumer products
Schwarz Logistik GmbH
Robert-Bosch-Str. 23
89542 Herbrechtingen
Germany

Please also fill out our cover letter for ZEISS cine lenses and enclose it with the shipment.

We hope that this information will help you.

We are happy to answer any further questions you may have.

Best regards
Your ZEISS service team".

Realize that much of the service needed can be done by any competent camera repair person. There is nothing unique about these cameras. Also, there is a supply of parts cameras held by various camera repair techs.

The last time I had my Zeiss Ikon serviced it ended up in Germany. They did a good job but it did take a little longer to get it back. I'm not complaining, it is a terrific camera and I am glad they are still servicing them.

This is the text of the email I received from Zeiss House in Cambourne TODAY 14 July 2025:

"Unfortunately, we are unable to service this product due to the age of the product, I do apologise about this."

No mention of sending it to Germany; I will try emailing Germany direct to confirm.

Zeiss responded to me today with the letter below. Good news. I should get my ZI serviced while I still can.

Dear Marty,

Many thanks for your message.

Service is still possible directly at ZEISS in Oberkochen, Germany. Other than cosmetic issues such as scratches everything should still be repairable.

So, in order to have your Zeiss Ikon checked and possibly repaired, please send it to the following address:

Consumer Products
Schwarz Logistik GmbH
Robert-Bosch-Str. 23
89542 Herbrechtingen
Germany

Also please make sure to use the following cover letter:

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best wishes

Your ZEISS Service Team

That is extremely helpful. It is a pity that Zeiss UK did not provide that information in response to my query; that was very unhelpful on their part. Without this forum, I would simply have assumed that the Zeiss UK response was authoritative.

Zeiss is a large organization. It is entirely possible that Zeiss UK simply know that they cannot service the ZI but do not know what else is possible. Good luck dealing with the transit to and back out of the EU.
