Hi, I have a question for users of the am 25/28 veiwfinder. Can the overall veiwfinder outside of the 28mm be used as a representation for a 35mm lens? I plan to use the finder for my 25mm on the Zeiss iKON , but will only purchase if I can use it as a 35 finder for another camera I have.

Representation, sure. Accurate viewfinder... Well, it depends on what you regard as accurate. Acceptable, possibly. Especially with a few rolls' experience. EDIT: But as Richard says below, it won't be the OUTSIDE. Sorry: I was thinking backwards (as were you).

The answer is no. The inside frame line is for 28, the outer for 25. There is nothing in the finder that signals the 35mm field of view. Focal lengths have increasing field of view inverse to the focal length. 35mm is not wider than 28, but narrower.

School boy error, as Roger mentioned I was thinking backwards,. The thought of paying top money for a 35mm finder (ZM 35,aka,Sony FDA-V1K).makes me wince.

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, the FDA-V1K is NOT the missing 35mm link in the ZM finders' lineup. When compared side by side the Sony finder's optics, frame line shape and resulting field of view are exactly the same as the CV 35mm finder, just the former having a larger ZM-styled body. Again that body is anodized aluminum instead of lacquered finish on the ZM finders, and the rubber eyepiece is non-removable...
So it definitely doesn't worth the extra top money! Just go for the CV metal finder, or the Leica X 36mm finder.

Thanks for that info. I will look at the sony finder in a different light.

That's an interesting comment re the CV 35mm finder and Zeiss/Sony finder sharing the same optics. Had no idea that was the case. Does the Zeiss/Sony finder have the standard Zeiss eyepiece like the other Zeiss finders? If so, one advantage would be cheap to source/easy to attach diopters.
I have a CV 35mm and it's great value for money. Unfortunately now discontinued now so may be hard to find.
