ZM 25, which hood?

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was any difference between using the 21/25 rectangle hood or the 25/28 circular one for the ZM 25mm 2.8. This lens is on my wishlist and I was just curious.

Try it without the hood. I've had my 25 for a few years, and although I don't shoot as much as probably most people here, I've taken a healthy percentage of my shots with it. No flare anywhere. Out of focus, under or overexposed, yes; flare no.

I have the 28mm Biogon and have the 25/28 round hood on it. I doubt it has any effect on flare, because the hood is so shallow. The lens doesn't flare, ever, anyway on the 28 so if the 25 is as good as my 28 (and grainhound said it is), it probably doesn't matter what hood you get. I'd get a hood, to protect the front of the lens from bumps and fingers, but son't expect it to make a difference on flare.

I use the rectangular hood and it's been terrific. No experience with the circular on that lens.

I'd go for the round hood as a snap cap with decent finger tabs could likely be found to fit the hood itself- so you can toss the difficult ZI lenscap down a sewer before it decides to head down one by itself.

I should've mentioned that I wasn't really concerned about flare. I mainly use my lens hoods as something to protect the front element. I never liked the UV filters I got in the past.

I hadn't thought of getting a lens cap to fit the hood! Well, I might have for my ZM 35/2 but then forgot. Point for the round hood!

I use a rubber aftermarket hood, it works better as a hood than the Zeiss one [I have the round Zeiss one as well] and as I use the lens mainly when I'm hillwalking it's good protection for the front of it.

Seems like the round hood might be better as a protective measure vs the rectangular one (round one has smaller frontal area). That's what I have, but not why I have it.

I have the 21/25mm hood. I get flare now and again. The 25/28mm would provide better flare protection. I also get flare on the 50mm, but never on the 35mm?
