Just got off the phone with Poplfash and ordered a black ZM 50/1.5. I already have the ZM 50/2 but this thing was just so darn tempting I couldn't resist. I should be getting it tomorrow and I'll hopefully have some B&W examples posted within the next couple days.

Thanks for reading my pointless post, I'm just excited!

Like everything "fast".. I'm interested in seeing how this performs wide open Kyle :)

Looking forward to seeing some samples :)

Cheers and congrats,
Dave

I've been eyeing it, too.. but I have to wait. Gots me a couple conferences coming up (hawaii and vegas) and I have to pay for those, eep!

I will definitely be testing this thing out wide open!

...must have... bokeh... can't live... without... good bokeh

In other words, I want to see what this baby does with OOF areas.

Congrats on the new baby.

Ron

Mine came today from Popflash. Also got several other ZM lenses and shades from them today. Nice people to deal with. The f1.5 has wonderful build quality, and I'm sure you will love it! Can't wait to see some of your B&Ws. Enjoy!

I got a call earlier today from Popflash (about an hour after ordering the lens). They ran the card and it was declined! I went to my bank to get it sorted out, turns out one of my client's checks bounced ($600!). I made a cash deposit to cover the lens, so I'm going to reorder it tomorrow morning. I already called the client up, he apologized repeatedly and promised to pay me in cash. This is the first time I've had a client bounce a client bounce a check, but I think I'm going to look into getting set up to accept credit cards and stop taking checks. What a PITA...

Congrats Kyle and Dave! I think it's tempting too, even though I already have a slower 50, and don't really use that focal length much. Some kinda siren song, and PopFlash's price is excellent. Arrrgh, GAS pains...

It's a fine lens i think but it's a pitty they made such a strange full apeture value of F1.5. A f1.4 would be better in my opinion. Anyway congrats.

Hi Kyle:
I procrastinated for years regarding accepting credit cards. My wife talked me in to it about a year ago. Best business move I ever made. I live in a summer resort area and my nich is selling local seascapes to people that love our island, and are here on vacation. I have (at last count) 71 matted and framed prints in the local tavern, ranging in size from 20"x24" ro 30"x36". People buy on impulse and here's where credit cards save the day for me.
Best

the f 1.5 is such a classic 50mm f number for a Sonnar design, only Nikkor went with the f1.4 after 9 months of making the f 1.5 in 1950.
this new ZI Sonnar should also be made in LTM.

Thanks for the input, I believe it will be a good move as well.

I just re-ordered the lens through Popflash, and I should be getting it tomorrow!

The *first* Sonnar from Zeiss 50 came in 1936 - it was a 1.5 and the fastest lens available at the time.

Choosing to maintain the lens 1.5 is surely for historical/nostalgic reasons :)

Yes I know, but thanks Jak !

Hi everyone,
this is my first post here.
I'm planning to buy a ZM 50 Sonnar, so I was looking for pictures taken with it.
I found on Flickr some samples; you can give a look HERE before kyle posts his new shots.
See you,
M.

Well, I finally received the lens earlier today (well, Friday). It was here Wednesday, but I wasn't home so they left a delivery attempt slip and didn't re-delive till today. Anyways, initial impression is just like the other ZM lenses I have used-its very well made and smooth to operate. I didn't get a chance to test it out, that will hopefully happen tomorrow. I'm pretty excited! I'm also going to take a couple side by side comparison pictures of the 50/2 ZM vs. 50/1.5 ZM, as I know that was one thing I was interested in.
