zorki 1 shutter rebuild

Finally the shutter curtain cloth arrived, now i've got to install new curtains 😀
However the problem is that i haven't any reference points that tell me where to glue the first curtain on the drum and the pulleys.
I've read a couple of websites but they say you must write down the exact point where the old curtains were glued... unfortunately in my camera the first curtain unglued from the drum so i actually don't know where to glue the first curtain.
Any suggestions?

You can glue the closing curtain first, and test it in B-mode. Be sure there will be enough space for the second one. The spacing between the two curtains must be enough to protect the film from light.
The length of the curtains must be the same as the originals. Otherwise, the curtains wil wind with an uneven spacing.
The release for the secund curtain is a lever that is catched by a latch. The position of the gears beneath the main drums is important.

And finally, the best suggestion I can give; take your time. It took me 3 day's before I replaced my first curtain properly. (i've done it more than 5 times now) Don't give up easily. When you succeed, you will find more camera's you want to repair just like me!

That's pretty unlucky! Is there no way to tell from the marks left behind?

This may be tedious but you could try attaching the old curtain with double-sided tape in approximately the right position, then you can peel it off and adjust till correct, then mark it. If you do this, just put the smallest tension on the rollers so it doesn't pull the curtain off again.

Can't think of a better option, sorry. Are the tapes at the drum end still attached (or even one of them)? If so, mark them up NOW! The tension-roller end of things is of no importance in terms of positioning so no need to mark things there.

Let us know how you get on and if you solve it. Fortunately, the cameras I've done have just had worn-out curtains, not detached ones.

I guess that visiting Jay Javier´s (Zorkikat here in RFF) Zorki Survival Site will help, and perhaps a PM may make wonders.
BTW, Jay Javier did an excellent job sharing his experiences to all of Us, sick old camera lovers.
I´m facing the same job for my Zorky 1, but fortunately the first curtain is still attached to the drum. Anyway I´ll replace both.
