There are sites which describe the Zorki 1<alpha> features, e.g. by serial number, number of screws on the back cover, slow shutter speeds, etc.
You might have a 1e already.
Wanna post a photo of top plate, rear top and serial number?
Noel

Hear the news!
Got a smoothly working Zorki today! The shutter operation is problem-free, exact in nature... you just hear it's working as good as ever. The shutter cocking knob feels smooth when operated... I think I'm in love.
Some pics to show it off.
http://www.kolumbus.fi/~w427831/kuvat/imagedump/zorki7.jpg
The serial number starts with "55" ...
http://www.kolumbus.fi/~w427831/kuvat/imagedump/serial.jpg
But it is a Zorki 1D revealed by the shutter speeds.
http://www.kolumbus.fi/~w427831/kuvat/imagedump/dials.jpg
It even had the reloadable cassette within!
http://www.kolumbus.fi/~w427831/kuvat/imagedump/cassette.jpg
Camera bag.
http://www.kolumbus.fi/~w427831/kuvat/imagedump/bag.jpg
Now, I need some advice on how to clean this camera properly. What kind of chemicals, textiles and such will I need? Most of the dirt I got off with a smooth cloth and some papertowels, but some I couldn't remove, as is obvious in the first pic (right RF window ring). What must be done?

Congratulations on your new camera, beats mending the other don't it?
The mark on the left hand round bezel looks like the chrome has come off and it's exposed the brass base. If so, it can't be cleaned off. You could polish it though.

Mine has an identical top plate to Tuomo's except the engravings are in both English and Russian, and the serial number is there, no165152 (1952??).
The front is not the same in that the border round the vulcanite is a narrow band round the top and bottom only, no border surrounding the lens aperture. I just noticed another tiny difference, the knurling on the selector knob is diamond (crossed) shaped, on Tuomo's it looks to be straight. It might have been easier for me to search for the digi, wonder where it is?
Now that I am no longer scared by bottom loaders (Zorki5 has it, so I had to learn), maybe I should give this a coat of looking at. It works, just a little firmer to wind than say the FED2. One other thing that spurs me on, is that I've come to like the style of image that this lens makes.
Dave....
Edit: found my digi, attached pic.

This is what I found on a website:
The 1C is the first model with a black accent stripe around the top and bottom of the body. The body covering has a finer grained pattern than later models. There are only two screws in the back of the top instead of the three used in earlier models. There is no longer a film guide on the baseplate. This camera is a 1952 model. The lens is from a later camera. The Zorki Zorki model of the 1C was made for export. "Made in USSR" is also engraved on top.
So, my bet is your Zorki is of the 1C variety...

Guys
Green with envy, your cams in better condition than mine, the origional yellow filter went out with every camera but are pretty rare now.
http://home.att.net/~wayne.cornell/camera/zorki1.html
and associated pages provide identiification details.
I need to fix the lub faults with mine and on some replace the shutter blinds... I've only had the winder off on one, it had been mistreated by a kitchen knife maintenance man.
They really work really well...
In good condition the wind on should be light.
Noel
p.s. Daves cam is a 1c the two screws on the back and lower serial number than mine confirms, it is a Zorki Zorki (export) model.

I use cocktail and kebab sticks sharpened into chisel edges, q-tips (cotton waste on end of stick, Zippo fluid (petrol lighter). Dont apply the fluid to camera dont wet the cotton more than damp.
Dont clean the lens.optical surfaces.
If the lens heliciod has grit or wax then you need small pliers and rubber glove, remove the close focue stop by protecting the chrons with rubber of glove and unscreewing with pliers carefully, unscrew lens from mount and clean threads, the lens will run dry, ignore any slack.
Some of the lenses have a baffle at the rear to act as a hood, you can paint this with acrylic black board paint (after removing it) and when it is dry putting it back. I also use a leitz hood which is more expensive than the Zorki, but still get some flare in bad conditions, but then my leitz lens is just the same.
It is easy to adjust the rangefinder but doing more is difficult.

hey, they're only Zorkis
Tuomo ~ You did good, man. Very good. The Zorki looks in great shape. Congrats! You're going to get soooo attached to that thing. It's nice compact size just makes it too easy to take everywhere, no reason not to have it with you often. Get out there and run some film through that bad.boy
) round pressure plate and springs. All three are Zorki.Zorki.
I have the b, c & d models. They are as you guys have described, best distinguished by the differences in trim or lack of it. My c & d models are shot along with my Leica.IIIs as great companion/backups. The b is awaiting a missing (and so far, unsecured...except the engravings are in both English and Russian...

Noel, the guy seemed to have two more Zorkis in his possession, and he hadn't sold one in years so I think my spares are secured. He even brought his 1928 Leica A for me to fondle, though I don't think he's going to part with that anytime soon... I wonder why?Do we think Tuomo is going to buy the parts camera as wel?

What model are the other two Zorkis, and what condition are they in, and what price?
Dave and I might not be uninterested parties...

Once you pop, you can't stop.
Found another Zorki in this other photography shoppe near my job, haven't had the time to pop by and investigate the matter as to what type of Zorki 1 it is. Will report shortly. The shop seemed to have other nice cameras as well, an old Zeiss Ikon and a Contax as well...
I shall make further inquiries...

Hel is full of camera shops and dumsters with secreted cameras some have messages from Ru intel operatives?
All I got is one plastic card (like a credit/debit card,) with a cryllic exposure record of the last film, but no dates just frame numbers (the card fits into the slot in the Zorki case).
green with envy...
