I posted a while ago about my Zorki 6 shredding film, and not allowing it to rewind. I got the film and negatives back and I'm trying to sort thru it.

I do know I would get some resistance to advancing the fim at about the 7-8th frame if I remember right. Nothing really bad. It looks like the some of the sprockets might be stripped.

What I was wondering is if how I'm attaching the leader to the take up spool is having something to do with it. The film catch on the take up reel is shapped like a backwards C that comes to a point on its bottom side and that point rests on a flat spot on the take up reel. Should I bring the film over the "C" and stick the point of it between C and the reel shaft? Does the pointy end engage on one of the sproket holes in the film? (It seems like the point might be a bit high.)

I'm wondering if I'm doing something that is getting the take up spool and the wratchets pulling differentially on the film and causing the problems.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

This seems totally unreasonable. The Zorki-6 must be just about the most reliable loading camera ever made. It has a positive grab on the film, like a bottom loader, but a fixed spool and swing door, just like a Kodak.

The flat side of the point you allude to is 3mm from the side of the spool, half way across the flat section of the spindle. The film goes in behind the spring, where the two round holes are, and the point catches in a sprocket hole.

If the winding mechanism works with no film in it, it should work when there is film in it. If the wind mechanism is stiff, it makes no difference to the film.

About the only other thing that can go wrong is the rewind shaft is too stiff, thereby restricting the film coming out of the cassette. This must be (eventually) obvious and easy to fix.

The rewind release button is the one that is on the top deck beside the shutter wheel and must be held down while rewinding.

I've shredded film before by forgetting to hold down the rewind release button. If that's not it, I can't picture why a Zorki 6 would destroy your roll.
