Zorki 6 shutter questions

My Zorki seems to be doing ok, pictures are a bit hit or miss though.
My first question is about the shutter indicator. The little dot that is supposed to line up with the shutter speed is off. It doesnt line up, and it seems to be getting worse (farther from the selected shutter speed) as time goes on. Is there an easy way to fix this? Also, could this affect my shutter speeds? Is there an easy way to tell if my shutter speeds are correct? They seem ok, and bulb works like it should, but I would like to double check.

There are 2 reasons why the indicator might be off, both easy to sort. You'll need a small screwdriver. If it's off it won't change the actual speeds but clearly it's hard to know what speed you've set!

Reason 1: the dial itself is loose. It's held on by two tiny screws in the rim of the dial. They don't need to be very tight but check if they're loose. If they are, reset the dial to the correct place and tighten them up (but NOT very tight, they break easily).

Reason 2: the centre shaft is loose. To tighten it you must first remove the outer dial by slackening the screws noted in reason 1, then lifting the dial off. I suggest you slacken the screws just enough and not take them out since they're tiny and VERY easy to lose! Once the dial is off you'll see a small hole in the centre shaft. Put a pin through it and tighten it up (again, don't overdo it). Now replace the dial and set it to the correct position.

If the above doesn't cure it then you have major problems because they're about the only reasons if nothing is broken.

To your second question: to know the speeds are correct you need a speed-tester, not something most people have lying around! With practice you can judge it but another known-good camera is handy to check the sound. Try the monitor-test to judge the higher speeds, you can find this in the sticky on how to set shutter tensions (top of the FSU section).

Very welcome, glad it worked. I like the Z-6, it's a nice camera! Was it the outer or inner part, out of curiosity?

Turns out it was the outer part. The inner shaft seemed to be pretty tight.
