Does anyone know what the thread size is on the baseplate of a Z1/F1? Is it a quarter inch?

If you mean for the tripod socket, it is probably 3/8-16. The 1/4-20 size wasn't adopted til much later than the Zorki/FED 1.

The tripod socket is indeed 3/8" although you can get adapters to allow the use of the more modern 1/4" tripods

Hi, I think the point ought to be made that it's 3/8" Whitworth and then 1/4" Whitworth. I doubt if it is nowadays and they get worn too. The older tripods had a simple way of changing from one to the other but you don't see it these days. All that happened was that the round base unscrewed and was turned over and refitted. Simple and easy...
