HU: Leica M3 BIN $300

I bought an similarly advertised M4 on eBay years ago (probably around 10). Got a really bargain for $400. Looked a lot better than the one advertised today. Course when I got it the insides looked like it had been on the bottom of the ocean for a long, long time. Still have it laying around somewhere. Take my advice - when they say it's a parts camera it's probably not even that.

Not always..

I bought a parts M3 for $200 BIN a few years ago and found nothing wrong with it. The seller thought it was defective because he had to advance the wind lever 2 times.. I also bought one for $300 and sent it to DAG and am still using it..

all have winding problems

all have winding problems

The M4P and M6, and M7 is often just a tightening adjustment, with washers still OK.

On the earier than M4Ps, the washers are often corroded and need replacing, sometimes with other parts if anything else is corroded, bent or stripped.

I thought that was the M6?

I want a beater M3, so this camera may be what I need.
If I had sold a couple of items, I would have bought it.

Looks like DAG could put it back together. And for some $20 for a cover, the cosmetic issue is taken care of. :) Looks like a project for a DIY person.

raid - buy it. We're all now curious how this story is gonna end.

Got a 35 for sale?

Canon 35mm/1.8 just professionally cleaned or the Canon 35mm/2.8 for stealth work. Both are very sharp lenses. Or a beautiful Summaron/3.5 that has just been cleaned professionally.

Maybe the Kobalux 28mm/3.5 with finder and hood [mint].

Who wants it? I need a quick offer.

on the tamarkin site, there is a SS M3 with a 1million plus serial number CLA'd for $649. that seems like a better deal to me...

if you buy this one for $300, you'll be spending a minimum of $300 to get it restored...

just my .02

I bought mine M3 (my second, the first one I bought on ebay for much more) on a flee market early in the morning here in my hometown in Germany for only 5 Euro!

It was hidden in a box with lot of other stuff. The sign on the box was: "Everything in here for 5 Euro"

I saw the Everready case of the Leica and felt that something was in there. Before the seller considered what she has there, I asked her, if I could give her 5 Euros and could take something out of the box. She said yes, of course.

So I bought it and took the case with me. A few meters far away, I opened it and there was a Leica M3 with 50mm Summicron and Leica-Meter MR inside.

It could have been a M2 as well, didnt know.

Huuuh, that was a thrill!!!

In other words, like Photo Arsenal, only in reverse. Exploiting sellers before they consider what they have, rather than exploiting buyers before they consider what they buy.

:D:D

YES! Indeed!

I came back to the seller very quickly to look for some lenses I might have overseen, but they werent any.

The seller wouldnt get, what she was selling there, even if I would have shown her the camera.
She told me, her grandparents died and she is selling nearly everything out of their house....

The problem with this is, as cheap as it seems, could be the rangefinder as well as any other problems. I bought an M3 with a crap rangefinder mechanism not knowing much about Leicas generally a couple of years ago. I eventually got it fixed when Youxin Ye took pity on me ... luckily for me he sold me a finder out of another camera he had ... it still cost me $250.00 though!
