I've seen this on evilbay just a couple of months ago, somewhere Octoberish I'd say. Can't remember the exact price but it was ridiculous at the time, the seller will not have made too much profit on it, maybe a hundred quit altogether.
By the time it's restored, it's not an original black M3 anymore, and value drops like a brick. If not restored, it's a cumbersome and rather expensive paper weight.
It's useless as a conversation piece as well: "What happened to it?" "Uhm...Dunno...?" 😀

i remember it, i actually bid around $800 on it! i think the next bid got it for about $1k, but i don't remember exactly how much.
i remember reading in one of these threads(i think tom a. said...) that you can send it to leica and they CAN refurbish it with original b/p parts. so it could be made back into a 'real' b/p m3.
if i had a little extra cash at the time and didn't already have a b/p m3, i would have definitely bought it. my wife actually gave me the go-ahead to bid enough to win it, but i hesitated at the last second...
yeah, she's pretty much perfect. i always ask her (kind of jokingly) before i buy something more than a few hundred dollars and she always says 'yes!' the only downside is that at when i ask her how much i need to make for bills, she reminds me of all the crap i bought that month.
