Been a bit wrapped up with a few things the last few days, but have just posted on my blog about on a small local protest on Saturday. Our local council is proposing to close a number of local libraries across North Yorkshire and provide services through the larger central libraries and 1 or 2 super mobile libraries.

This will cause a real loss to many families outside of the larger town centres and will reduce the number of books many children are able to acccess as they grow up. Our own children have used the local library regularly from about the age of 2.

Local feeling is very concerned about the proposals and a small protest was organised on Saturday at Bilton library. I took the girls over and grabbed a few pictures whilst we were there. I was pleased that the local paper had also sent a photographer so that the event will receive coverage in the print media.

A couple of pictures below and more on the blog if you are interested.

cheers

Mike

Oh she's adorable, send it on to the paper, they might run it and help the cause. I wish you the best luck.

Thanks. We hope that we will succeed - I think the council is hoping that local groups will volunteer to take on the service. However, they may also wish to relocate to a less suitable site in that case.

Good photos (here and in your blog) for a good cause. I like libraries because of the book (of course) abt also because they are a place where people can be and feel part of a community. Wish you success. Bookmarked your blog.

Nice photo's of a great subject, one which is close to my heart.

My daughter, son-in-law and grandson (2 years old) were there too! I have strolled past that building on many ocassions - it is an obscene waste if they go ahead with this maddness.

We lived in a small town on the coast and the small local library were very active and encouraging, laying on many events and readings. All of my children virtually lived in that library as they were growing up and it shows in them to this day.

Well done.
