I'm in love! So, what just happened?

It's late here and I have work. I'll update you tomorrow on the technical stuff regarding developing and scanning. I am rather excited at the possibilities but I also think this camera is haunted (in a nice way). It keeps looking at me with its two vertical eyes just willing me to take it out again.
 
I love the sandstone used in Bath - your shots capture that color nicely. I'll be there in Sept and your images only raise my anticipation of traveling.

Once I handled my Rollei and saw the results for the first time I knew I found the camera that best fit me. Favorite camera, BY FAR, and especially great for color.

I don't know why you're in love (though from the quality of the photo's you've posted I think I could have a pretty good guess). I know why I'm in love, though - while I've yet to even load a film in it, I looked at the finder of this lovely thing that arrived today:

and I'm in love. If any of my photos do justice to the view of the focus screen, or even get half way there, my love will be requited. I've never owned or used or even touched one before, but judging by initial experience there just seems to be something about TLRs...

That looks nice, Mike. If ever you need it there's a retired Armenian Rollei-trained technician in Fairfield. Has a workshop in the back of his garage and does quite a bit of work on older cameras. He refurbed my E2 when I bought it and it came back in pretty nice condition. He also fitted a new genuine Rollei-Gossen lightmeter to it at the same time but I really now think a hand held meter is better. I use a Weston Euromaster for that. He goes under the name of The Rollei Expert. His English is passable and his work seems OK, but he prefers to use the phone rather than email. He actually prefers you to drop by and have thick black coffee with him and talk.
The WA I just bought didn't need anything done to it. It's in excellent mechanical and cosmetic shape.
Just developed the first film through it - hopefully I'll print something before the week is out. Just need to get the laundry baskets and ironing board out of my darkroom!

Thanks for the advice. My Rolleicord came from Tony Rose of Popflash so (as is typical with Tony) it is in tip-top shape. Nonetheless, old cameras can break so the knowledge of where they can be fixed is always useful to share. (I've just saved that to disk where I know I can find it if needed.)

Sounds like mine! Except mine isn't (really) a darkroom: I'll confess I develop then scan, and don't wet-print. Every once in a while I think I should - but space and time and learning-curve constraints always put me off.

P.S. I'm using a Sekonic L-398 as my hand-held meter (incident and reflective) when I'm working more slowly. But I'll confess I frequently use my VC II meter as well if I'm in an impatient mood. Thankfully negative film is forgiving.

I've been debating with myself with what medium format camera to replace my SL66 with when I manage to get it sold... My thoughts wander from a Rolleiflex TLR to a Mamiya 6/7. Great picturs though, they make me salivate and lust for some TLR goodness. Does anyone have any recommendations for Rollei TLRs cameras, by the way? Which ones are good, which ones aren't? I bought my Rolleiflex SL66 without knowing quite what I was getting into, and it's a great camera, it just has so many features that I would never use.

Welcome to the world of MF and color. Wait until you see MF slides. B/W ain't bad either. Now get an inexpensive Zeiss 6x9 to experiment with. You will be surprised.

Nice photos btw. The vespa with the building reflected really caught my eye, but all are nice.
 
All I can say is uh-oh, I can feel some spending coming on. I've been trying to think of a viable alternative to lugging my RZ67 around for MF images. In my ignorance I forgot all about TLR's (sorry). One would fit perfectly alongside the Leica in my bag.
I used a Lubitel some years ago and had fun.
What is a fair price to pay for the Rollei 2.8?

Yo Dog, great stuff!

There is no question TLRs give you an entire new perspective. I think part of it is the viewfinder. Quiet shutter, no interchangeable lenses, big screen, simplicity at its best.

Not an easy camera to carry everywhere but always a fun camera to use.

Congrats on your purchase, thanks for shareing and great job on pushing Ms. Helen over the edge.......

love the images, they are sharp, have nice color, and have a real 3d quality to them. "what just happened" is that i've given my tlr and film a strong talking to for failing to provide similar results, lol. 😉

Thanks Steve. I carry a Lecia CL but find myself going back to the Rollei for street work. I paid £220 including close up lenses and a Weston V meter but I got very lucky scouring the local classifieds. There's one on Ffordes at the moment for £499.
 
I saw the one in FFordes hence the question 🙂
I didn't name the dealer just in case...
When I was looking for a Leica M6 I mentioned on the forum I'd found one at so and so for £xxx. Guess what, yep it went. Still, I then found a gorgeous M6 TTL instead.
I'll have a rummage through various classifieds first.
