Hmm, I wonder if they will release it as a limited edition in silver?

Fixed that for ya.

At this price, my thinking is that I might as well go for a Leica glass.
leica HAS a 35/1.2 lens?

It is the jump in price that may cause negative feedback for CV.
It suggests things that are not positive.
I never liked the idea of a large RF lens, so this is unimportant to me anyways.

$1,700 for a 35mm FL lens with multiple Aspheric surfaces and an F1.2 speed.
Let's see... The Noct-Nikkor 50/1.2 fetches $4,000 these days. The Leica 50/1.2 more than $6,000?
Cosina should come out with an Aspheric 50/1.2 in SLR mount for $1,700. Save people a LOT of money.

I would not get over excited about it. The people who want to buy this lens will buy it. So be it. Leica prices should be lower. They are extremely high, and out of reach for most people with a fixed salary.

What a joke. It's the exact same lens that sold for $879 until 3 months ago in a new barrel.
Actually, it's not. Earlier this year, when Cosina discontinued the original 35/1.2, they said this was because the glass needed for the aspherical elements was no longer obtainable. They had to look for a new type of glass for the v2, which is probably also the reason that v2 has THREE aspherical surfaces, as opposed to TWO in v1. This may also explain the higher price tag (both the new glass as well as one more asph. surface).
Now let's wait and see how the lens performs, then we can still bash it
EDIT: Come to think of it -- the final retail price need not necessarily be that high. Let's wait and see.
Can't wait for the threads bitching about focus shift in V2 and then see V1 prices go to $2500!

Hopefully they fixed some of the barrel distortion of the classic
Regarding the price ? The rules are like this:
1) CV and retailer have the right to choose any price they like.
2) If the price is too high for you, don't buy it. Simple really.
Never understood the b*tching about prices; after all, we are talking about luxury goods, and about unique product specs (the only 35/1.2 out there). Wait for the next down-turn if you want recession prices. If you have the cash then, that is.
Roland.

I guess it's because people may not associate Voigtlander with luxury.

Agree. Even though they are, when comparing to SLR consumer lenses, for example.

Version 1 can be bought for $1200-$1300.
CV is "affordable luxury" when compared with new Leica items.

Noct-Nikkor 50/1.2's used to go for ~$1000 new. Used, they go for ~$4000. So why doesn't Nikon re-issue it? Too expensive to produce? Forgot how? If there wasn't a market, the lenses on the used market would not fetch $4000.
Anyway- I picked up the last new Chrome 35/1.2 V1 Nokton available. If Cosina had not come out with the new one, I'm sure the price of mine would be above $2000 within 2 years.
So the new lens adds an extra aspheric surface and will focus closer. I'll be interested in seeing the results.

funny coincidence with this news, bought my v1 Nokton TODAY, and am loading first test shots (M8) currently to my Mac
if the same team who designed latest 35/1.4 and 28/2 is behind it, it that might actually happen
gotta wait Reid Reviews etc. credible lens tester to take "smoke from it".

Now that we'll be specifying 'version 1' and 'version 2' when talking about the 35/1.2 Nokons, let the confusion begin!
But really, at every NYC meetup, I dedicate at least two minutes praising the 35/1.2 Nokton (version 1; see?). It has faults (e.g., barrel distortion), but like other great lenses, it is great despite its faults.
But at $900, it was a deal. Such a great lens.
If the version 2 Nokton is 100% better with a 100% cost increase, I will buy one. But the quality-to-price ratio has to be balanced.

Come on, the lens is not out yet! It is more expensive, but at street there might be less of a difference than expected between V1 and V2. it is also a different design, lighter and smaller. I'm amazed at all the assumptions based on zero hard facts. This lens might seriously compete with the new Leica 35 lux II , or at least offer more contrast than the V1 in a smaller package, with a bayonet and so come closer to the lux asph II in terms of utility.... bu then agai it might have terrible focus shift.... or 'orrible bokeh.... but we just don't know yet!

No, they never stated that officially. Secondly they make their own glass in house as Gandy, Tom A, etc always like to point out. They clearly didn't run out as they just threw up another batch for this new lens.Actually, it's not. The best camera is one that still works!
It's a little tricky comparing CV and Leica pricing. Many of us have Leica glass we use regularly that's well over fifty years old and Leica certainly does trade on it's history ... Cosina aren't really in that position.
If they were it would probably be a $4000.00 lens!
