Hmm, I wonder if they will release it as a limited edition in silver?

At this price, my thinking is that I might as well go for a Leica glass.
What a joke. It's the exact same lens that sold for $879 until 3 months ago in a new barrel.
Actually, it's not. Earlier this year, when Cosina discontinued the original 35/1.2, they said this was because the glass needed for the aspherical elements was no longer obtainable. They had to look for a new type of glass for the v2, which is probably also the reason that v2 has THREE aspherical surfaces, as opposed to TWO in v1. This may also explain the higher price tag (both the new glass as well as one more asph. surface).
Now let's wait and see how the lens performs, then we can still bash it 😉
EDIT: Come to think of it -- the final retail price need not necessarily be that high. Let's wait and see.
Never understood the b*tching about prices; after all, we are talking about luxury goods, and about unique product specs (the only 35/1.2 out there). Wait for the next down-turn if you want recession prices. If you have the cash then, that is. 😉
Can't wait for the threads bitching about focus shift in V2 and then see V1 prices go to $2500!
Now that we'll be specifying 'version 1' and 'version 2' when talking about the 35/1.2 Nokons, let the confusion begin!
But really, at every NYC meetup, I dedicate at least two minutes praising the 35/1.2 Nokton (version 1; see?). It has faults (e.g., barrel distortion), but like other great lenses, it is great despite its faults.
But at $900, it was a deal. Such a great lens.
If the version 2 Nokton is 100% better with a 100% cost increase, I will buy one. But the quality-to-price ratio has to be balanced.
No, they never stated that officially. Secondly they make their own glass in house as Gandy, Tom A, etc always like to point out. They clearly didn't run out as they just threw up another batch for this new lens.Actually, it's not.
