Thank Dave. 🙂 Actually, I find myself using the face detection a lot. With film, I regularly shoot zone-focus and non-viewfinder (hipshot) on street. Also I shoot very high ISO (I often push to 1600 on film) even in bright day light, coupling with fast shutter speed and small aperture so DOF takes care of focusing to certain degree, and face detection can help even further, for both exposure (when I'm using AE) and focus.

It is great that I can do pretty much exactly how I shoot with film, and added technology of digital camera can help. I'm finding X2 is not getting in my way of shooting. 🙂

My main use for it is to shoot people quickly without framing through viewfinder (ie hipshot) thought face detection mode will act as regular 11 point focus when no faces are found so I could leave that one if I forget to switch back.

For example, I could pretend I was shooting buildings without focusing/AE to the guy smoking then reframe.

But again, I'm using this camera pretty much as "digital barnack" and super precise focusing isn't really high priority. 🙂
 
A few shots from bike ride yesterday. M2+Cron50 was the main camera, but it was so easy to take the X2.

not to sound like a jerk off or to point fingers (thats not my intention at all), but why spend over 2k on a juiced up p&s camera when you could get a full m4/3 set up or a sony nex setup for the same price and get essentially the same IQ?

basically how do you justify spending 2k on a camera for snapshots? ive thought long and hard about getting an m8 or x1 before but could never get myself to do it.

Ummm...the OP posted this thread as X2 photos only IIRC....😉 Maybe you can start your own thread with this as the lead question?

In a way you're right, but ergonomically I prefer the X2. It works the way I expect a camera to work. The rest get in the way with poor menus / controls. The X2 stays out of your way.

The camera allows me to make the same photos I would with a DSLR and a 35mm equivalent lens. Not sure why you think it would be different.

why start my own thread when i can hear it from the horses mouth? i dont need a thread full of responses.. just needed the opinion of one person.

i see your point on ergonomics but the difference is $$$. my point in the second statement was that i often debated dropping $2k on an m8 but decided against it when i can have a canon 5d classic and a set of primes for the same price.

i guess it just comes down to me being a broke college student haha. now that the x2 has come out i have been debating an x1 more and more though.

Steven, with all due respect, this thread is for pictures, not discussions of why the camera is "worth" $2000. There are already plenty of negative posts and threads with rebuttals and reasons why we like the X cameras. We have tried to get a forum just for the X cameras but have to make do with just a thread or so here and there on specifics, such as the pictures we like to share.

It is only good form to allow the thread to concentrate on images, not discussions of which camera, etc. in order for us, who have or are interested in having an X camera, don't have to sort through dedicated threads for this information. Others have kindly allowed this thread to progress to this point and it is much appreciated.

We would be happy to discuss your questions in a dedicated thread about whatever you have.:angel:
 
Thank you all for posting X2 photos, this is a wonderful camera as anyone who is fortunate to own one. If you don't want to post photos from an x2 this is not the place to make comparisons. Remember life is full of choices and once you make one you it isn't necessary to explain or defend.

I have not done comparisons but will when I get a chance. Off the cuff I would say they are real close in IQ. The X2 appears to have slightly better dynamic range and more accurate colors ( which may be the awb which I shoot 99 %). Auto focus is better as is battery life. They are so close it would take a real expert which isn't me to make sense of it. I'll send you some shots when I get a chance.

It is interesting how the X2 (and the X1) are so complementary to the M9 (and the M8).

Here is a link that shows, to my eye, a comparison of the M9 with the X2 and to my eye, the X2 image is a bit better...notice the color moire effect on the tallest building in the background with the M9 image. PP? Who knows?

I agree Dave they do go together very well and its easy to put a X in your pocket. I travel with that combo plus an M film, this last week was M7.
