I'm sure a number of M8 and 8.2 owners have taken advantage of the trade up offer to get an M9. I wonder what Leica does with the trade in M8's?

I don't know of any Leica trade in offers. Usually these are offers by individual stores.

They throw them in the ocean to build new reefs for the little fishies.

Well, It got the best of me so I called New Jersey. Carmen said they are destroyed in Germany. Damn, I would have been perfectly fine with an 8.2 with a coffee stain saved from the crusher for a bargain price.

probably stripped for precious metals in the electronics then scrapped / recycled and turned into new cameras (or the metal sold for profit)

Doesn't Germany have some fairly strict recycling regulations? There's plenty of value to be sucked out of the waste stream.

I like Adam's video link above. But, imagine running the video in reverse. In go M8's on one end and on the other out pop Tata Nano automobiles. If they still produce them, I think you could buy several Nanos for the cost of one new Leica M (240). Such a deal.

Hmmm, you can't help wondering if they padlock the top of the waste bins at the factory in Solms. Has anyone tried climbing over the fence?

Regards, David

PS Loved the clip of the crusher rejecting the car...
