Leica to announce a new M-mount M6 film camera in Oct 2022

To me, if the newer M6 meter can fit in the old m6, it could mean that it is newly developed and not the MP right? Or are these camera all so close that the MP meter could have been used in the old M6 for all these years? Hmmm, if the latter, Why the sudden change in attitude towards repairs of the original M6? Film cameras must be on a real uptick at Leica used and new.

Re-creating a newer circuitboard for the meter cannot be this "impossible" task. Seems simple enough that some enterprising engineer, preferably not out of the PRC but instead, working in concert with DAG or the handful of others still in the business, can do on a coffee break.

Ok, so then Leica just chose not to do those repairs for many many years and has decided now that they will?

I don´t quite get the spare parts discussion. Is there anybody with a broken M6 meter who was not helped by Leica until now?

It seems that many people complain about this. Maybe I am wrong and it has always been repairable. I was just going by people who keep asking if their M6 can be repaired with the new M6 parts.

Honestly, I am now starting to think it is an MP and the original M6 can be repaired with the MP parts if necessary. Seems like a lot of speculation out there and I bought it.

Over the last few years there has been angst about whether M6 and M6 TTL meters could be repaired. I don’t know if this is justified or not, whether Leica has been repairing them or not, but the forum postings wondering about this (on this site and others) are out there.

How common are these meter failures? I have no cameras with a bad meter and many of these are from the 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s.

The Leica CL meters fail (the cell).

DAG has told me last week, that out of many CL meter repairs only a very few have required the meter cell.
If as you say it's a meter cell problem, then the same would apply for the M5.....
& BTW he does have parts for the CL

Keep on dreaming. You know, of course, that you would not be online with a computer, keyboard, and mouse without components made in the PRC. Cheers, OtL

So now that the new camera has been revealed and the excitement is over, I can look forward to next year where perhaps Leica will re-issue the M5. I’m not being sarcastic - I like the M5 but its meter and meter stick I do worry about. They need to change it to make light readings off the curtain like the M6. Cheaper and easier to do.

That'd be like Cunard launching the RMS Titanic II.

Came across this 2010 post on p'net by Gus Lazzari. It's an M6 TTL (I think) but it gives a good look inside the complexity of the electronics layout: i.e., multiple boards, flex-ribbon circuits, wire runs, etc. I'm sure the M6 is pretty close. 00Xlh5-306859584.JPG.81f3e4c9791d40a09c32b88f62e423d7.jpg - Click image for larger version Name:	00Xlh5-306859584.JPG.81f3e4c9791d40a09c32b88f62e423d7.jpg Views:	0 Size:	132.0 KB ID:	4806868

there's all this stuff in my MP???? unbeliavable... all this circuitry to light 3 red leds... wow.

Wow! All that circuitry for a meter?

I'm pretty amazed myself. I don't know the reason for all the circuitry, logic, and the high surface-mount component part count.

Now I know why Youxin does not work on M6's/7's etc.

Just opening the camera wrong or disassembling/reassembling, pinching a wire/cracking a flex-board or trace can wreak all kinds of performance and diagnostic havoc. Eeek!
