A Volkswagen Polo. Does anyone on on RFF know how to stop all the stupid and distracting beeps, bongs and other random warnings that plague this, and all other modern cars? Solutions up to and including the use of wire snips will be considered. And what happened to Haynes manuals?

Ah, you meant a Leitz FOKOS ... a clip-on rangefinder. 🙂 I have Voigtländer, Präzius, and Hugo-Meyer clip-on rangefinders. What can go wrong? I find they're all reasonably accurate as long as you're working with f/4 and smaller apertures in the distance range from 1-15 ft (1-5 m approx). I wouldn't rely on any of them to accurately focus an f/2 lens wide open and close in, but the Voigtländer cameras I use them with all have Color-Skopar f/3.5 lenses. What I do find a little curious about them is that the Voigtländer and Präzius (both German manufacture) are calibrated in feet where the Hugo-Meyer (American made) is calibrated in meters. Luck of the draw, I guess ... I never bought any of them explicitly, they all came bundled with one camera or another.
The Leitz FOKOS is pretty and I see it is vertically oriented when fitted to the camera in the accessory shoe. Interesting!

Even if you have the right units it doesn’t mean that the scales coincide and you find yourself having to guess where 15 falls between 12 and 20. I end up making bits of paper like this:

Exciting news!!!! I have discovered a new law of the universe: Conservation Of Photographic Expenditure
The net amount of monies spent on photography will remain constant or rise when buying- and selling.
How do I know this? I just sold a very nice Yashica MAT 124G, and less than 2 weeks later just bought a Leica D-Lux Type 109, in the box, using the proceeds of the Yashica (and a bit more).
At least it's an RF...

That's easy, you spend equal amounts on second hand Leica lenses and brand new Leica Digital M's then you wait three years and sell them all.

Heh! That's a geeky kind of fun. Thanks! I have to admit that I use the rangefinders only very seldom ... I'm reasonably practiced at judging focus distance and riding the DoF scales. And kinda lucky at it, I guess. 😉
I've been focusing cameras by the distance scale for a very, very long time.

Amazingly it seems my cheeky £32 bid was enough! The Lens that's on the XR-1 wasn't mentioned so be fun to find out what it is.
Now have access to use some Pentax K Lenses which is a nice option.

This week I bought a Rick Oleson Brightscreen, MPD, 6610, with parallax correction mark set at 4 feet for my Yashica 635. I'll have to wait until next year to get it fitted, (becuae I only have two braincells and am a cack-handed idiot), but the job is being done by the seller from whom I bought the camera.
