Some people never really become an "ex". They remain with us, even after they've passed. I think you were very fortunate to know her...
RG, it is a mixed blessing. I still cherish every moment we spent together, so long ago. And I regret that there were not more. On balance I am the better for it. Her parents liked me a lot. I think because I treated her with such respect. She had a great brain, a great wit and had complete integrity. She was a good kisser, too. ;o)
She is buried out on Cape Cod. I hope to drive from Oregon to the Cape and visit the grave and place a stone on her gravestone, the custom with Jewish graves to say, "I visited; I care, I wish you and your soul all the best."

We all have them - ex girlfriends (boyfriends) Even the greats like Saul Leiter. Some of these are clearly not just "models".

In My Room: Saul Leiter's intimate Portraits - The Classic
The women in the photos are collaborators – conspirators – sharing with the photographer intimate moments that will be preserved in gelatin silver. Saul and his subjects are playing, romping, having a good time together. As each woman lets her guard down, revealing her true self, she reflects...

Another photo - an ex (wife) in this case, looking very "Dallas". Together for around 15 years then.........................well, who knows why things change?
Look back with pleasure, never with regret. Nostalgia is a fine thing but never mistake memories for real life.

So far it seems to be fairly nostalgic, rather than vengeful/caustic...

It is very nostalgic............possibly because all of the photos of ex'es about whom people might want to be caustic have been consigned to the flames or have pin-holes in the eyes.

Sometimes it can be a good thing to relive one's past.
Those of us who have reached A Certain Age know the pleasures of nostalgia. Also the pain. Yet as the years flow by the caustic remembrances mostly wash down the gurgler anyway. As they should. Forgotten. Forgiven.
For me the present is a far better place than the past. And tomorrow the future will be today.
I write and post this well knowing that if I ever try to revive my 'intimate' past, the kitchen cleaver awaits.

I am however, always amused when watching video's involving theoretical physicists discuss the nature of time when they pronounce "Time does not exist!"
Clearly, they have not yet reached the age of 70 years.

OK, this Russian honey was almost a girlfriend. A charmer but three and one half hours away. That's a long ride for a kiss. From St. Petersburg and quite cultured and intelligent and a great cook. That woman can cook.
Yeah, the eyes, it's always the eyes.

Time does not exist? they say. Obviously they have no lives worth remembering...

Yep! These guys are up themselves.Time does not exist? they say. Obviously they have no lives worth remembering...
I should think that Einstein would be surprised given the Special Theory of Relativity dealt with space-TIME and the effects of motion on the flux of time.
"Time is a construct of the mind", they say..........."time is an illusion". But minds can only construct illusions within a framework of time. If there is no time nothing changes - illusions are impossible. But patently, things do change, and that requires time.
I think some physicists are in love with weird ideas because they think it makes them seem profound and special. I think it merely makes them feel desperate for attention. Like teenagers with nose rings and tattoos.

Are memory and time the same? Does one indicate the other? This time stuff is way beyond my depth. I struggle with calendars.

Memory implies something happened "before". "Before" means there was another present time preceding the present time. Are memory and time the same? Does one indicate the other? This time stuff is way beyond my depth. I struggle with calendars.
It is one thing to say: "time does not exist". It is entirely another thing to say: "time does not exist quite in the way we perceive it to exist."
The latter sounds entirely feasible to me (though unproven). The former sounds like egregious and fanciful over-reach.

I understand the English. It is my native tongue. The mathematics and physics are another realm entirely, like poetry vs quantum mechanics. Understanding the prose definition of "time" does not equate to understanding the meaning in quantum mechanics apparently. It seems a kind of apples and oranges situation. I think this is the basis of the confusion. Again, calendars are as great a challenge as I am qualified for. Clocks sometimes puzzle me.

I will politely beg to differ; three and a half hours is nothing for a kiss, if it's from the right person! Back in the day, before being happily married, I sometimes traveled much longer and farther...OK, this Russian honey was almost a girlfriend. A charmer but three and one half hours away. That's a long ride for a kiss. From St. Petersburg and quite cultured and intelligent and a great cook. That woman can cook.

This thread is an example of RFF at its emotional best: sentimental gear lovers reminiscing over past loves 😌💕 It's not just old cameras for us, it's everything. And back, back, back in the day, kisses lasted for 3 hours!
