Being a Brit I'd like the Spitfire first, but the RAF and RNAS used all of the other types in the picture, I wouldn't say no to any of them! The B25 would be a lot more practical for giving friends lifts as well!

If I am not mistaken it is the second from above
Superb plane and the actual winner of WWII I believe

In reference to an earlier remark concerning the 104 Starfighter being called the widow maker , that in fact was the term used by the pilots wives also . Heard both my mother and father using that term . Canadians lost quite a few of them due to their low level flights ( practicing to be under radar detection ) . My father did more than a few investigations into the cause of the crashes , I actually got to see the aerial photos taken of the crash sites . Peter

I saw a P51 make a low pass over a long runway (at what's now called Miami Executive Airport), with its prop maybe a foot or two off the ground at high speed, at an airshow in the early 70's. It then pulled up and climbed out of sight within seconds. It was a sight I'll never forget.

I've been to a few airshows in recent years and clearly the pilots were not flying either so low or fast on low passes, but back then they probably were a bit less restrictive. The sort of flying I witnessed that day was probably closer to how the plane was used in action.

I did my Army stint statiopned near La Ferté-Alais in what was Seine et Oise and is now Essones. Near it is the La Ferté-Alais Air Museum. Gorgeous. They rent planes for use on movies. Here, take a peek: La Ferté-Alais Air Museum

The staff were charming, WTH, they're French, and when I played the geezer card they let me park in the handicapped parking right by the door. It was otherwise unoccupied or I would not have asked. Now I have a placard so it is all legal. This is about an hour south of Paris.

My Uncle Roger, who flew a Helldiver for the Navy and is in Manila Bay, would load a keg in his plane and take it up high. When he came back down the keg was cold. Granted this was an expensive way to cool kegs. But it was all part of the war effort. ;o)

I've heard tell of the USAAF in the UK doing much the same for ice cream for any time they had schoolkids visiting the base.
