What have you just BOUGHT?

A little scale focus Ricoh ff-1. A lot cheaper than Minox 35. ...
The Minox GT-E lens performs very well. I wonder how the Ricoh FF-1 lens compares.

I was curious as I hadn't seen any Ricoh FF-1s for a long time ... looked on Ebay and, while the Minox 35 GT-E prices average higher, the overall range of pricing overlaps a good bit.

And more reliable...
Hmm. Early series Minox 35s in 1974 had some issues ... not least of which was getting the Makrolon material of the body and back properly light-proof. I had one of those once upon a time. But any made from the second year of production (1975 and later) on were properly light-proof and reliable. I had two of them through a bunch of years/many rolls of film, sold them as I needed money for something else, which ended up in my buying a new Minox 35GT-E in 1998. I've had that one and used it pretty extensively for a decade, still use it now and then, and it's never needed anything but new batteries and fresh film.

DAG has joked about it with me ... he always complained that the Minox 35 was poorly made, but when mine never broke, he just rolled his eyes and said, "Minox things like you." LOL! 😀

Haven’t shot it yet but reviews I read were favorable. This was a true auction and I ended up being the only bidder. Came with new batteries and a roll of film for like $40.

I have a Minox 35 ML....works great.

A 75mm Meopta Belar enlarger lens to go with my new enlarger. I already have one... but try finding the thread adapter to L39 separately!

I did ponder for a few seconds on why I had a 35mm enlarger lens, but that's got to be for 35mm half-frame, right?
Bum nuts!

The adapter is about 50mm, way bigger than 39. Yet another thread size I've found!

I may have found somewhere there might be one lurking though...

I have a Minox MB, and that seems to be the most reliable of the Minox 35's I've had. I had a 35 EL, PL and GL and they had their issues.

I did buy a Helios 103 this past week from Fedka.

Well 2 of the 3 landed and threw 2 batteries in the Ricoh and yes before I say it....you know it sprung to life, the mirror dropped when I put it on 'X', the wind on is a little janky but feels better the more time I try it, the meter works and it's clean inside....Oh what a predicament! 😉 Do I now find another one with a good winder and the other 2 parts or.......Oh yes and it has a nice old Pentax Strap attached, 5 mins cleaning later and it looks good to go.

Anyway onto the Soligor....It's very nice, all metal came with a Hoya filter and apart from the Aperture not closing down it feels nice, and it's clear through the viewfinder, the 'Macro' works at all lengths and its zoom is internal....Looking forward to using it as is or fixed.

Dear Board,

I think by now some of you know I like to fish, and I like to fly fish. I even like to tie flies, but my eyesight and coordination make that a challenge when dealing with smaller trout flies.

When someone I've known for a long time on fishing message boards offered these two pamphlets for sale I got them. I always had great luck fishing Comparduns in place of Catskill styled dry flies. Now I have the all the recipes, and my ham-handed heavy fists can tie them, I'm out of excuses. 😉

The season is just about over for now here, but I can tie up flies all Winter long for next year!

It landed, the interesting, for me, a fully working Ricoh Simplex, beautiful shutter, Nikon F Mount, no meter, quite literally the simplest camera, lovely aluminium ASA reminder on the back, speed dial on the top, that's it, 15 mins cleaning later and a dab with a fine point marker just to tidy the nameplate up and done!

The cover for the wind on lever is missing but if I put it above eye level....It's a simple generic one so will replace at some point.

[Yes, the name was deliberately wrong 😉 ]
