Hi all
A quick question on lubricating the 1st curtain shaft on the Contax lla
What needs to be dissmantled for this, if anything at all? I see the cam with what looks like a retainer above with the cam underneath, have these to be taken off?
Thanks for any input on this

There are others here who know a lot more about these than I ever will, but in my VERY limited experience (one IIIa stripped), unless you're in the mood for a full mechanical strip-down, or have very good reason to believe there is a problem there, it would be best to leave it alone. A trace of watch oil might help, or as likely might not, but I think it might be difficult to get it to the spindle without removing the cam-disc.

To do this you would first need to mark every part carefully so that you can re-assemble it exactly as found, in particular the position of the cam-disc relative to its hub, then find, or make, tools to fit the slotted nut and the two holes in the cam-disc. It is not easy to reassemble in the right position because you can't stop the hub turning while you tighten the slotted nut.

To actually remove the spindle you would need the shutter out of the body and the curtain-frame detached.

Sorry if this is discouraging!

Steve.

This is all riveted and will be very, very, very hard to take apart. This is the problem, because very thin oil can go through if you apply it with a syringe at the upper lip of the shaft tube, but all you can do is to try to lubricate something very likely to be dirty and oxydized inside... hence the need of some intense ultrasonic cleaning for those parts.

Many thanks for your advice Steve, Highway 61 always so useful. I am suitably cautioned and will not go there! The speeds are pretty good so I guess the oil has got in enough for now.
