This time it is 24650 which obviously started life as a I and is now a II.
As mentioned previously lens is a coated Summar. This time I was using very out of date FP4, no hood, no filters etc. Exposure in October based on a bright and sunny f9, rather thin negs....

First a rather 'moody' and cold seascape...

Followed by a bit of contrast...well actually quite a lot of contrast for a Summar!

Then a typical into the sun Summar picture showing the shape of the aperture blades nicely...

Then, rather better than I had expected, or have come to expect from Summars

Typical into the sun Summar again

Formula I has nothing on this...

So that concludes my in depth, technical and highly scientific review of Summars using whatever examples I may have.

What to be said? I still think you never quite know what you are going to get from a Summar!

What a beautiful II and what lovely shots it makes.
BTW, the white lettering looks like paint, not Wood's metal. Is it paint?
Oops, on closer inspection it looks like it's a post-war upgrade: DBP & GMBH. So no Wood's metal for sure!

Those are some very nice shots. I'd say the Summar is perfect for how you're shooting.

Question; I'm about to buy a Leica I converted to II, in the same serial number range. But DRP is at the bottom of all the engraving. Is that how you can tell when it was converted? See my post in "Show your conversions."

Signature flare:

Only the double aperture of the Summar could get you flare like in the center top of this shot! I love it!

The camera is very nice and clean, and without synch! Lovely. The nickel furniture looks almost as new. It must be great to have a coated Summar on this one. A new nickel VC Heliar 50mm f/2 for this camera would be nice too.

Erik.

Lovely evocative pictures--very well done.

From curiosity, how out of date was your FP4? I've just been given some with a 1990 expiry but have doubts about using it.

D.

Yes, the nickel Heliar had crossed my mind at one point but I have just retired and the lack of an income is a very good way of curbing the desire to acquire. Disposal is more the name of the game.

The FP4 was out of date 2001. I was guessing exposure so the fact that the negs were, to my eye, a bit thin was more likely to be than the film.
