Finally received my Bessa R from Stephen Gandy! 🙂 HM customs got their hands on it for a while and I had to pay the proper taxes etc... oh well 🙂

Anyway, I found the case that came with it difficult to fit around the 25mm Skopar finder when it's mounted in the hotshoe. The fit seems a bit strange even when on, like it's skewed a bit... I was also surprised to see that the viewfinder itself is actually a lot wider than the 35mm framline which is the widest you can select on the body itself. I was wondering, is it roughly 25mm? If so can I just leave the aux finder off and use the full area of the body viewfinder to frame? Thanks!

Also, I'm really really skint but really want to treat myself to a 35mm for my bday that's coming up, is there *any* other alternatives to the Color Skopar 35/2.5 that's under £100???

Hi Gary,

I'm pleased to see you've joined the Bessa crowd 🙂

Canon made a number of 35mm lenses, some of which were outstanding. The f2 is reckoned to be the pick of the bunch (but might be quite costly). The 2.8 is almost as good (maybe a bit lower contrast but still very high def), and should be available for under the ton. Check the classifieds here, they turn up from time to time.

Good luck, and enjoy the Skopar – it's a wonderful optic.

There isn't one that I can think off - the Jupiter J-12 won't fit into Bessa bodies because its rear element will foul the light baffles (and possible the shutter).

But I'll be happy to let you know what my CV 35/2.5 is like when it arrives (I recently ordered a Bessa R plus 35 from Mr Gandy, and I'm in a similar situation - I really want a 25 to go with it, but I'm skint 🙂 )

Best,
