35/1.2 Nokton price raise?

You bought and sold the lens three times? Wow

Stupid me, I'm thinking of buying one again.

I tried to love the f1,2 three times. It was too massive for an RF 35. BIG BIG BIG. That's what I said each time...but I still do like its IQ, though not enough to carry the heft when there are lenses that are much smaller and render with an even more enchanting glow wide open ;)

At $1199 it's still a bargain. I'm surprised the price rise has taken this long to come. The chrome is a bargain now at only a $200 premium. I bought mine at a $400 premium 6 weeks ago....somehow I think this thread may have something to do with it.

If it is discontinued, I'd snap one up quickly, just in case a mark II isn't coming. I always said this lens would be super hot if it was discontinued....let the rumors begin!

Love this lens at 1.2, something the Summilux can't do in such a soft and delicate way.

Do they all need modification for digital (M8/M9) or were the latter produced ones pre- factory modified? Maybe that has something to do with the discontinuation and to speculate, a new version being in the pipeline?

Now I'm really never letting mine go! That's crazy.

It seems perfectly sane to me. The lens is STILL a bargain at the new price. What's crazy is the pre-asperical Summicrons nearing the $2k mark.

The Voigtlander 35/1.2 Nocton is not just discontinued, it is SOLD OUT at the factory.

the 12/5.6 and 15/4.5 lenses listed as discontinued on Cosina's site are the SCREW MOUNT versions.
M mount versions are current production.

I now own my second copy of this lens having sold the first some years ago. I've grown to really appreciate this lens and really quite like the bulk in the hand when it's attached to an M6. It would take a very special lens to be produced for me to consider parting with it.

It ends me buying one too, or wanting to make any purchases from Cameraquest. I logged onto the site to check the price and saw the huge hike earlier today. That, with the ridiculous hike in the 50 1.5 over the last while... and the 28 3.5 etc has made me regard that retailer as, well, cynical and unethical. Do B&H or any other store you know hike their prices through the roof before a lens is discontinued? No.

I think ethics come into play here. Cameraquest is an importer as well as retailer and seem to be hellbent on controlling prices and supply. You can be sure he buys in the stock at the same price, clears out the factory, then hikes prices incrementally until they are almost (or actually) double their original price.

If there is another explanation as to why only particular lenses (and the ones being discontinued from what I see) I would be interested to know. I had held off from buying from that site before, because every time i wanted a lens I found the price had gone up substantially. Now, finally decided/financed to buy a 35 1.2, it has just gone up 33%!

Is it just me, or does this leave a bad taste in your mouth also?

33% ? Not True. The recent 35/1.2 price raise was from $979 to $1179. 35/1.2's went up from $879 to $979 about 3 weeks ago. The 35/1.2 was introduced in 2004 at $879. Since 2004 Leica has increased prices an average of about 5% twice twice a year, yet you are not complaining about Leica price increases when the 35/1.2 has remained constant until towards the end of its production.

PhotoVillage has the same price on on the 35/1.2 as CameraQuest. They seem to be out of the long discontinued 50/1.5's, as is I think are B&H and Adorama.

Cosina decides when lenses are introduced or discontinued. I am but one of many distributors who buy from the factory.

Popular discontinued lenses often go up in value, look at the many Leica lenses that have done just that.

Well that's not good. So what's the word? Or can't you say? ;)

Don't you know? They make an "improved" version without ASPH elements, and it will focus shift from here to hell while at the same time having uncontrollable sample variations. It will of course come with a 50% hike in price. Hood is optional (and extra).

I remember when a Leica 50/1.0 went for $1800.

Have they gone up at all?

Leica prices have more than doubled in the past few years. The Dollar is worth 1/3 against the yen compared to the 1980s. We're getting hit by decreased value of the US Dollar and the end of the production of a popular lens. I miss paying $95 for a Nikkor 5cm F1.4 in LTM and $80 for a 5cm F1.5 Sonnar. I bought a few of mine at those prices. If I sell them, I'm marking them up. Maybe 20 lenses is more than a few...

Quit Whining. Buy while you can, or miss the boat entirely. Your choice. I'm placing my order ASAP.

Does anybody else remember the price hike on Neopan 1600 or Kodachrome?

Now that the Nokton 35/1.2 is getting harder to find and more expensive I suddenly want one now.

If this lens doesn't get replaced with a successor of at least equivalent IQ, prices for used exampes will go through the roof over the next few years.

I bought mine used a couple of years ago for half the current retail ... thankfully!

I´d consider 1200$ still a good price for a lens that fast and unique on the market. Still, if you are used to used prices on 70s gear, thats a lot of cash. 1200$ can buy you into a great SLR kit of the past and hundred rolls of film... With the M8 and the M9 finally, rangefinder lenses have gone through the roof. Maybe two or three years ago I bought a Canon 50/1.2 LTM for about 150,00 €.

I was just down looking at the $70 Canon 50/1.5, $50 1956 KMZ J-3, and $60 1953 KMZ J-3.

The rising prices on those lenses might be my fault.

I suspect my $30 Nikon M with 5cm F1.4 lens might have increased in value.
