^ well how lame is that!
There is still plenty of stock.
My guess is that Cosina will sooner or later replace it with a non asph, cheaper built lens. Maybe a 1.1? Tom surely knows more.

I initially thought, great a new fast 35 mm will replace the 1.2. Then I thought maybe a not so great 35 mm will replace it. So I quickly ordered one.
Chrome 35/1.2 on the way. Is this lens going to be a cult classic like the 50/1.2 Noctilux and Noct-Nikkor 58/1.2? Time will tell, but at least I will have one!

Not as fast, not as good, not as expensive, but keeps CV in the 'fast-ish' game?
I think it's already covered - the 35/1.4
Probably the only reason the 35/1.2 has hung on so long is that it took quite a while to sell off stock. I would be very surprised if there was ever more than one production run for this lens.

I thought about the 35/1.4, but I already have the nokton 40 1.4 which served me well. It was the first RF lens I bought with my Bessa in 2007. I was trying to make up my mind to buy the fast 35 or fast fifty, both being priced similarly.
With the announcement that the 35 was being discontinued; well the decision was made for me.

yeah, I had squirreled enough away that I thought I might be able to squeeze the 35/1.2 out of the budget this spring, but the increase killed that idea for me, too
I think the 35/1.2 has retired, and the 28/2.0 just got a promotion on my GAS list

Well the fact that Tom hasn't commented on this thread should give some sort of indication

These are two different lenses in many ways

Ugh. I had been squirreling away as well, as earlier posts of mine on this thread say, and was ready to pull the trigger this week, bad timing to pay for a CLA on a body and a lens, then the hike came along with the discontinuation.
I'm kind of over waiting though and about to just pull the trigger and put it on my PayPal "Bill Me Later" just so I can get a copy now before they get even more damn expensive!
I'm sure looking at these posts and the photos on the other thread, I wouldnt regret doing that and just paying it off eventually.

Of course they are. But, does GAS need to be rational?
While the 35/1.2 met a certain requirement for me, it fell out of my budget range. Nothing else available (that I know of) fills that need within my budget; so, I just checked down to the next 'need' on my list.
With the demise of the 28/3.5, 50/1.5, 35/1.7, 35/2.5C, and (to some extent) the 35/1.2, VC seems to be moving up the food chain and leaving the recreational/budget shooter behind.

Understood. It must leave a bitter taste in many mouths saving to afford this lens. I hope you find a reasonably priced used one and can enjoy it as much as I do. Cheers

No bitter taste at all here. I have enough other toys to investigate in the meantime.

Good to hear. Thats one of the good things about the industry now...there are many alternatives, and plenty of new products on the horizon. Though gear was so much simpler with film, and I focused my attention much more on my photography than I do now.

The best camera is one that still works!
Well ... it's nice to know I finally have a lens in the cupboard with guaranteed immortality ... because short of selling a kidney I'll never own a Noctilux of any description!
