Canon LTM 35mm f/1.8 - Does flaring go away when lens is stopped down?

Thanks Raid. I assume those were with the f1.8 rather than f2.8. You know, for me at least, given the lighting in those shots the flare is more than acceptable.

It was the Canon 35mm/1.8. I have never used the 35mm/2.8 for such light conditions, but have used it in sunlight. There, I don't see flare.

Flare is obvious and unpleasant in the photo.
I am expecting my 35/1.8 back soon after it got cleaned.
Another option would be to get the front element multi-coated.
Then, it would lose the glow.😱

I just acquired a Canon 35mm f/2.8, and I have not found any noticeable flare. I'll try and find some wide open shots to post.

I think that the fact that my lens is not in prime condition might explain the flare. My Canon 35-3.5 suffers from this condition too albeit I've had it cleaned before. This problem never arose with cheap lenses like the russian I own though. But is also present in one 2.8 Elmar and on the Summar.

My Canon 35mm/1.8 also displays flare, and that's why I decided that I needed to budget for lens cleaning and not just for lens buys. I now have four lenses being cleaned professionally. I also have the Summarit, which may be useless to clean when in fact the flare is an inherent glass feature of the lens.

Hello Raid,
I'm looking forward to getting back my Canon 3.5/35 mm which I sent to a new repairman in Lisbon I've known of through João, the gastroenterologist at the rff Lisbon. The repairman said it could be cleaned, and I'm as happy as a boy. I'll publish results when I get it back. Maybe the other cloudy lenses will follow, depending on cost benefit. It's so hard to find able repairpersons in Lisbon these days.

I have the 35/2.0, which seems to be the best 35mm Canon lens. Until now no problems with flare. I am thinking of selling it since I can`t see the 35mm frame lines
in my P's finder and prefer the 50mm.
