I *may* have found a storming deal on a 35mm summilux. The price has got me wondering if there's something I'm missing? Are there several versions of the summilux aspherical, some worse than others?

The lens in question has been described as

35mm summilux asp

There were two -- that includes the current Asph. version. The first (marked "Aspherical") is highly collectible due to its short production run. Both lenses are equals as to their reproduction qualities.

You may have a find, but look at the glass carefully before you buy. Beware of "storming deals" too good to be true... they usually are.

ASP probably means ASPH.

One version ASPH - that's the latest. 8 Blades, 1 aspherical element. Used starting at $1600.
One version ASPHERICAL - that's the secnd latest. A very limited, partially handmade production with 10 blades and 2 aspherical elements, said to be the best Leica 35mm lens ever, highly collectable and expensive ($3500+ for a used). There was a longer thread about that lens on the LUG recently, and owners of it reported the bokeh is smoother than with the asph. Some own or owned both versions and did direct comparisons.
