.72 finder question? How wide is it?

What lens would the the entire finder represent? assume you look straight down the middle and not side to side?

it's in between 35mm and 28mm.

A bit wider than 28mm. You could probably do 24 or 25mm if you weren't too uptight about precise framing.

The entire VF just equates to 28mm lines. I do not wear eyeglasses and when I look thru, my 28mm lines are on the very edge of the black if not marginally in the black. when you consider that the 28mm lines show less than true coverage at distance, you realise how inadequate this mag would be for 24/5 - you'd be doing more guessing than composing. A 0.58 finder black to black might be about right for 25mm as there is a clear margin around the 28 lines looking thru without searching for the gap. I own both and would advise serious 28mm users to get a 0.58 - its a revelation and fine for 35mm too. The 0.72 is at its best with 35mm.

I guess if you wiggle your eyes around a bit on the 28 lines, you can see more. But if you stay truly centered, it is pretty tight. I don't know, I've never really had an issue shooting 28mm on .72 finders.

I wear glasses and to me the 28 frame of the 0,72 is a bit like "an honest politician" - they might exist. but nobody has seen one! I tend to limit the 0,72 to the 35 - and that can be a tight fit with glasses. I would recommend the 0.58 for 28 and "emergency" use of the 25. Rangefinder's are not ideal for precise framing anyway and I tend to favor "a bit more than I see" as it is easy to crop but very difficult to add to an image.

Yeah all bets are off with glasses. To be honest, if I couldn't wear my contacts, I'd either get eye surgery or move to a TLR or something. haha.

Not to hijack the thread, but I have another one question... I wear glasses and I already know 0.58 finder, but for 50mm I'd prefer bigger frame (I like size of 35mm frame). So I think about 0.72 as dedicated portrait camera. I know that I won't be able to see 28mm frame, and I don't care about that in this case. I assume that in 0.72 finder 35mm frame will be as big as 28mm in 0.58 finder, and 50mm frame will be 35mm in 0.58. How about LED shutter time illuminator in M7? I saw it in M7 0.58, and these digits are in right position at the bottom, so I didn't have any problem looking at them. Are they positioned lower in 0.72 finder? If yes, that would make them hardly visible for those who have glasses. Those of you who wear glasses and have M7 0.72, do you have any problems in this case? I know that I can use Leica eyepiece 1.25x. I already tried it, and didn't like. It made the whole viewfider look like a tunnel and caused the unwanted effect described above. Kris.

On my .72 finder, with 1.25 magnifier and no glasses I can see the LEDs.

So I would guess you can see them with glasses and without magnifier ....

I wear glasses and 0.72X is just right for me to use 50MM lens cause I like proper margin around the frame in order to compose freely, though some guys thought 50mm frame in 0.72X is a bit small.

The veiw you see in a actual viewfinder is a little tighter than what is shown above, due to eyepoint is different for each person(wear glasses ro not).

there is a fari amount of pace about teh 50mm lines on a 0.85 finder and would recommend this as a dedicated 50 and longer camera. I am sure you will easily be able to see the edges with glasses too. I do not like the 50mm lines on the 0.72 finder as they are grossly inaccurate and show far less than you get on film.

With my glasses, I can't see the 35mm frame in a .72 finder.

Maybe get the .58 camera and a 1.25 or 1.4 magnifier?
