Just a brief post to introduce myself. I wasn't sure where to post this (or even if it was a convention), but since the only rangefinder I'm currently using is the Mamiya Super 23 kit I'm assembling, it seemed right to post in the 120 forum.

I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks, and am quite enthused about the level of discourse here. Looking forward to learning new stuff from all you folks!

Best regards,
Dan

Welcome Dan. There's a Members Only / Intros forum where you can introduce yourself, but since you have such a nice 120RF, I'm sure this forum is also a good way to get to know other 120RF users who are familiar with your Super 23.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here. Knowledgeable and helpful people abound. Looking forward to seeing some of your photographs in the Gallery!

Kind regards from Sydney,

Not a bad place to introduce yourself, but a thread int he Members Only forum would be seen by more folks.

You don't need to confine yourself to one area. I don't have a Leica, but I like straying onto those boards too, for example.

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks. For whatever reason, I overlooked the Members Only / Intros forum on first glance, but I'll plan on leaving a note there too.

Hey, nice to see the messages from Oz. I'm pretty sure I've got a few unknown relatives there, and hope to visit some day. (Actually, I wouldn't mind moving there, except I understand the govt. is getting pretty particular about who they give residency status to!)

Dan

Welcome to the forum Dan.

This place has caused me to finally invest in Leica equipment. My son & his wife are having a baby today with my wife and I to visit them soon. I'm bringing a IIIf, some B&W film and a Canon 5D Mark something. Using a 50mm lens only, one for each camera.

I must caution you Dan that some of the threads can produce GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)! Ha!

love the user name, haha

Thanks; it seemed fitting to me for a lot of reasons:

* D (Dan)
* 76 (graduation date)
* I used to be (software) developer
* I'm diluted to about 1+1 these days, and look a little grainy

(I guess I'd better stay civil in this place; I think you now all have enough info to track me down if you wanted to!)

Welcome!

Yes for some reason I never needed to have Leica equipment until I started frequenting this forum several years ago. The more you hang around, the more you buy, if only because you think you can see the difference between versions of similar 35mm lenses, etc.

Then you can sell it all and be a curmudgeon advising people not to waste their money like me ;-p

Thanks, Bill. Have fun with that IIIf today. For about eight years I shot with a Model III and a 35 Summaron before that beautiful machine left my possession at the hands of a thief.

Yes, right! I'm already battling that, and I'm not even the acquisitive type. It used to be: one Leica, one lens, one world. Now I'm immersed in the world of MF "systems." Heaven help the fool.

Dear Dan,

Very good! And welcome!

Afterthought: isn't your 103-year-old twin on here somewhere, Ian Duncan, born in 1911?

Cheers,

R.

Welcome from Northern Virginia.

I'm sure you must be loving the Super Press 23. I have had mine nearly 40 years. Started with the camera and 100mm lens. Now have 50mm, 65mm, 150mm, and 250 f/5. Have always used 6x7 backs and thought I preferred them. After buying a simple Zeiss 6x9 folder, I have been rethinking that but not seriously enough invest in 6x9 backs when I have 6 6x7 backs.

Again, welcome.

Thanks for the welcome, sir. (One and all.)

Well, as of now I'm loving the idea of the Press. I'm still wondering how my old bones are going to feel after a day of lugging this thing around, though.

I got this mainly because I wanted to do super-wide in MF, so it was the 50mm for me. I'll also have the 100/3.5 as soon as it ships from the seller. The latter so I can use the bellows back for messing with DOF.

I found a Type 3 6x9 back on the infamous auction site while no one else was looking -- I was the only bidder. Shortly after that, I found the special cable release for it. I understand these things are made of unobtanium, so I feel pretty lucky.

What I can't seem to find is a manual for the Type 3 back. The protocol of the interlock(s) is a bit of a mystery to me, but I've only run a couple of rolls though it.

Yup, it's 6x9 for me. I'm so used to that aspect ratio from 35mm, and it's so close to the "golden mean" as to make it my ideal format on the bigger neg. It should be great fun in super-wide.

Welcome Dan to RFF the best place on the internet dealing with rangefinders and others too. I promise you'll love it here!

Thank you, sir. Indeed, the delivery has even preceded promise, as I'd been lurking for a week or two before signing up.

Say, is that Mr. Monk as your avatar?
