a one camera case?

Small leather bags look like purses. Not really any way around that.

It depends on your cultural background. :) To me it is like cash vallet I have to carry on with me back in nineties. Inflation and no credit card.

What  me with this fancy leather bags is weird naming convention for some of them. Like Airfroggy's WWI  or Oscar from Artisan Arts :D.

While my tamrac #something reminds me tarmac :)

And I'm not going to carry a huge bag around just cause I'm worried about my smaller bag looking like a purse. I really just don't care what people think it is. I like it and it makes things really easy and I can't control what the creators call it for marketing purposes and those things don't matter t tome. Does it function and work well for what i need it to do? In this case yes...

I have also used on of these, a WWII USMC officers musette bag

and one of these A Filson small field bag

But both of those were less convent when trying to get the camera out. The Pelle is set up for easy camera access and it is SO easy to pull out and put in.

Funny story about the Filson bag above. My daughter has one. While on vacation she puts a bottle of soda in it and doesn't close the top tight. Soda fills the bag and drowns her Lumix LX3 and Nintendo whatever-it-is. Dump out the soda and the Nintendo is dead but the LX3 is still alive. She doesn't put sodas in her bag anymore.

I had the F8 and it might be the best smallish bag for one camera with lens. Not much else can fit in it.

this is why i never use a camera bag for anything but camera gear...i see all the time folks and their water bottle tucked inside a camera bag and i shiver...

I have seen people doing this. It was one persona who put free beer can in camera bag. Took it on promotion event or else and put it in the camera bag to bring it home. Of course beer leaked all over his camera. And stories like above are not uncommon on forums.
This is why my tamrac bag has two external pockets.

How about the Lowepro Event Messenger 100. I found a used one locally in perfect condition for $5 CDN. Looks to be about the same size as the Domke 5-xa. I think the Domke is about $90 CDN. No thanks.

My complete X100 kit is the factory half case and a battery in a small SD wallet attached to the strap. The half case is just because I needed help with my clumsy hands holding on the the camera. All the other cameras I just take the lens I want to work with and the camera plus a battery in the pocket.

i had one...it worked, very pedestrian though...and ugly as a box!
was not for me.

I agree Joe that the Lowepro is not necessarily going to win a beauty contest but the Domke 5-xa looks like a box too. Too much price difference for me to pay for essentially the same thing dressed differently. The Tenba DNA 8 can be bought on sale for the same price as the 5-xa and offers way more functionality than either the Lowepro or Domke IMHO. I must be bored today since for some reason I feel compelled to defend the Event Messenger :)

In my hand, or on a sholder when I am doing other stuff that requires hands(i.e. Picking my nose). Lens cap always off! I own two camera bags but may be use them once a year to carry my photo gear. I use my billigham photo pro large to cary my work stuff: laptops, lunches e.t.c and my cameras when flying. I see no reason why you should carry a back on a daily shotings, RF lenses and SD card fit nicely into the pockets. Bags tend to get filled with the stuff one not really need and add extra carrying weight. Bags are necessary evil, I don't like any of them...

i carry a camera about 99% of the time...in some places, like my job, it would stand out like a sore thumb and be frowned upon...so i need a small bag for one camera/lens set up. you're right, if i use one of my bigger bags it tends to get filled up with non photo related stuff and then i get quickly aggravated with the whole thing.
