A very interesting debate. I must be right up front and say that I consider myself to be a Christian and so with that statement in mind here goes.
Nudity in and of itself is beautiful. The body when represented well, and that to me would be with shades and shadows etc, is stunning. I have no problem with nudity in art per se.
Let us say there is an art gallery for artists. It would be in my opinion a retrograde step to then have an annexe for nudity within that gallery. Art is art - fought for tooth and nail over the centuries.
But this is an open, tolerant forum and so mechanisms are already in place for the consideration of peoples feelings (don't miss that point).
Last but not least I consider it a privilege to consider the feelings of others in all things. Paul has expressed, with both dignity and courage, what his heart feels. We should applaud his honesty. Note well, he did not pass judgement on anyone.

My point exactly. If that was all we are then our Republican party would already have a candidate for President.

I prefer seeing good shots, regardless of content, over bad shots, regardless of content. That's as far as I get with taste.

I am in the same boat as Rick. No girlie photos are allowed to be viewed while at the university. Students could feel as if they are being harassed. The "pop out" factor plays a role.

Be careful, Raid...I have the same NSFW problem at my home office yet there are RFF members here who like to crucify people because of their beliefs and/or situations.😉

Not very good...
I don't think beliefs etc should come into this. In a forum with the possibility to set a 'mature' label on your images and for members to select not to see these, it is common courtesy to others surely to set the mature flag for images containing nudity, violence or any other scenes that may fall under this umbrella.

I don't think I've seen a single nude on RFF that I wouldn't feel suitable for my kids to see - and they're a six-year-old and a couple of near-two-year-olds. Safeness-for-work is another matter altogether.

Surely that people agree to mark up any photos that could be construed as 'mature' as mature on upload. People who then want to filter these can use the suggested tickbox to avoid these photos. Sounds like a win/win to me.

I don't understand where this notion comes from that RFF should be "safe" for work/school environments. Just so I get this straight, you surf the web for private purposes while you're on the job, presumably on your company's/school's equipment and connection, and you worry about a small percentage of content that might embarrass you?
IMO if you are uncomfortable with the content, view it in private. After all, I suppose you wouldn't sit in front of your class reading the SI swimsuit issue or Guns & Ammo magazine, either. That doesn't mean those publications should be banned, just that they're not appropriate in all contexts.
As I've said earlier, the existing mature content filter is flawed because the default setting is "no." Those of you who wish to change their profiles (a decision I fully respect and support) will likely find out it doesn't make much of a difference.

People who say this clearly don't actually remember being children or teenagers. You thought your parents only knew 25% of how you spent your time. In reality they were smarter than you gave them credit for, and knew more like 50% of your life. But that other 50% was still out of their eyes, and you wanted it that way--as does every growing person. Part of growing up is kids developing their independence, and the idea that only their parents should be responsible for them (when it is a patent impossibility) is a huge part of what sickens America.
(Spoken as a rabid left-winger who *hates* the idea of government-enforced morality, but believes we all as private individuals and a community sure as heck share responsibility for other people.)
On topic: there are very few nudes posted here that rise above soft-core porn, and there's already an internet full of that for those who want it. Crime scenes have been an integral part of photography since the beginning too, but I am pretty sure a close-up of a skull popped like a grape with brains and trailers of torn skin scraped across the pavement would be frowned upon here.
Unless it were taken with an M2.
