A second M6 exactly like the one you have except one in silver one in black...one for color one for black and white. You will not be confused and you can do the exact same shot with the exact same lens in color and B&W.

Or an M6-0.85.

I would, however, note that the accuracy of framing on an M is more limited by parallax, focus breathing, and frameline alignment, than by VF magnification. Accurate framing is not the strong point of any RF.
 
I was facing the same conundrum few weeks ago and chose to get an M2 to complement my M6. Haven't received it yet so can't comment on how well they work together, but I'm hoping that I made the right decision. The alternative, for me, would have been to get another M6.

Dear David,

Sure, though I can't actually imagine leaving my main M in the car. My point was simply that a P+S is a camera to buy after you have a system with a couple of identical or similar or at least interchangeable bodies, i.e. 2x Leica, not Leica + Contax (the 'interchangeable lens point and shoot' of my post).

I fully take your point about Ms being unlikely to pack up but it happened to me once and there was a recent post from someone whose M4 died on a European tour. Once is enough...

M4, 4-2 or 6. M2 & M3 are both bottom loaders, M2 manual set counter. Anything after the M3 loads the same and handling is the same. M4P has a 28 frameline that makes the view too tight for me and if I remember right the M7 speed dial rotates opposite the others.(ie:CW to set higher)

I agree, said the man who's owned and broken six CLs since 2005. Either two the same, or at least two of the same lens mount, with very similar controls. Because cameras get dropped now and then, and the lenses seem to take concussion far better than the bodies do.

Damn, If I'd owned and broken 6 of the same model camera in 6 years, I'd switch to something else!
 
I used to have 2 M6s 0.72. Actually nothing wrong with that setup but then I decided to sell one M6 and buy a M3. Now I am happy than ever, my kits are:

M6+35/2
M3+50/2, and sometimes with 90/2

Somehow, my choice is quite similar with Chris Crawford since he mentioned that he has 2 M6s with 0.72x and 0.85x magnification viewfinder.
 
Just get the one you feel like IMHO, they're just cameras, we have our favourites and our idiosyncrasies as to why we don't like something. If an M6 and a G2 appeals to you, then that's all you need to know. I don't think you need to worry about backups, same bodies etc. unless you're a pro, and even then, as you say you've got SLRs too.

Yes, they (Leicas) do pack up from time to time. I had one fail in the 80's and was amazed to discover that a part inside had snapped in two, then another (electronics) a couple of years ago and Leica charged £45 for the estimate and wanted over £950 for the repair - that went on ebay as spares or repair or despair and a Contax that no one would touch (electronics again). Luckily I've duplicates of all my serious and not so serious ones (even the XA1). So I do take my original advice (another M6) myself.

But I lock them in the car boot and get the P&S out simply because two bodies and the lenses etc weigh a ton or more by the end of the day. And friends have had cameras stolen more than anything else. And eating a meal in a restaurant in the evening is not a place to be with a ton of equipment. So it gets locked away and the P&S taken.

Also I doubt if the insurance would stand for two M2's and getting them right up to the standards I want. They'd probably try and settle for a digital P&S with a zoom covering the same range. I know what they did when my old HiFi was half inched...

I like this response. Haha.
But a lot of great replies in here. I'll be checking out a G2 anyway for measure because I'd like to handle one anyway, so I'm going to find a store that has one in.
Otherwise I think I'll probably be looking at an M4, most likely a chrome version too. I love my black cameras but the chrome M4 just looks so pristine. :)

Priorities, I suppose. Sometimes I've seen really great pics in restaurants, such that I've dug out the M. The American or short ton is 2200 lb, as distinct from the imperial ton of 2240 lb, and the camera-carrying or VERY short ton is still well above the weight of two M-series Leicas and 3 lenses (2.5 to 3 kg or 5-1/2 to 6-1/2 lb, unless you choose VERY light or unusually heavy lenses) plus the bag I carry 'em in (I just weighed 'em). Mind you, I seldom walk more than 10 miles a day.

Good heavens! Have you seen the price of bricks these days?

The Zeiss Ikon ZM I've decided to supplant my creaky CLs with should be just as much fun to smash, far easier to replace, and it takes my existing lenses. Briefly toyed with the idea of a Contax G2 kit as a second/spare system, but decided it made more sense to stick with something in the same lens mount, since I purely love the glass I've got.
