Using Legacy M Lenses with A7
Using Legacy M Lenses with A7
Excuse my ignorance for asking this question but I have 5 M lenses and have never used any of them on a digital camera body.
I assume the correct way to use them on the A7 with the appropriate adopter is to focus wide open and then close down to working aperture. Also, would I be correct in assuming the camera would set the correct shutter speed (ie aperture priority).
Don't have any camera stores in El Paso so I might have to head toward Precision Camera in a month or so to try out this camera. Option is an ME or used M9 so I can use the M lenses on a full frame digital camera.

Hi, it's a good question
You don't need to stop down. You focus at aperture you want to shoot. The DOF will appear as it it will be in the final image. Brightness is not an issue. That's what they mean by "live view", whether shown in EVF or LCD
It's very simple.
These new EVFs and LCDs are very sharp.
On a related note: in auto mode, the A7 shutter will adjust as you manually change aperture on the lens. You can set exposure comp to control how the shutter adjusts.

I had a few (rushed) days in the field with both the 7 and 7R. Shot a bunch with some of my M-mount glass, as well as with the native lenses. Here's my report:

jpfisher: Did you notice any difference in how easy it was to hand hold the A7 v.s. the A7r? I know the D800 has a bit of a reputation for requiring higher shutter speeds to avoid hand shake.

It's a nice little write up, but what everyone wants to see are actual images--full size, landscape style with details in the corners.

My work's content management system can only handle images 1,000 pixels wide. I'll get full-res versions up on my smugmug account when I have the time, but it could be a couple of weeks.
As far as shutter speeds between the two, I really need to go through the images and see what I got. There are a bunch, the downside of testing the "speed priority" mode.
From an ergonomic perspective, not really any difference between the two. Sometimes I had to look at the faceplate to see if I was holding the 7 or 7R.

Looks like an awesome little camera though I seriously doubt I will ever want to own it. I saved my money, sold gear, and bought an M9 and I really do not regret it. I have it for the picture quality, which I like, but for many other reasons as well. I hope I do not have to buy another digital for a very, very long time.

well, i remain optimistic about this camera as a digital back for my lenses, lenses that will look much more balanced than those pix. regardless of the physics of engineering, which as a consumer is not my concern, i do not like either the look or feel of something so obviously out of whack.

Enjoy Life.
OK, that's awesome.
The only gripe I have about the A7 twins from a usability standpoint is the shutter sound (volume). Watched the "camerastoretv" review and they pointed out the issue. Not a stealthy shooter despite the size.
