Hello,
I'm looking for a program that works for me to orgainise my pictures and it looked like ACDsee would have been close but i have a problem. When viewing ERF files, they are all black. They claim they support RAW from the RD1 but i was wondering if this was a known issue. I tried googling beforehand but did not find anything.
Cheers,
Tom

I am an ACDSee Pro user - I like it a good bit - and I've had good luck with their customer support. I'd email and ask them.
I just installed the 2.5 upgrade yesterday but have no Epson files to test. Works fine on the RAW files I generate.

ah this is very re-assuring. Could i possibly send you a RAW file from my camera to see if you can open it? It's strange because i can open my DNG files from the Ricoh GRD fine. I really love this program and intend to order it in replacement of Lightroom but failing to open my RD1 raw files is a major drawback for me .
Note : they claim they open RD1 raw, they don't mention RD1s. I can't think this makes the slightest difference as most people would have updated their RD1 to be RD1s anyway.

Thats strange. I just downloaded the latest demo version from their website and it's exactly the same problem. All my .ERF files come out black. The EXIF information is present but the pictures are unreadable. I'm not really keen on buying this software if it can't display ERF files
I really hope it's my fault but it's strange that it displays the DNG files fine.

I have both the software and the Rd-1 and they work fine together.

Hi,
I'm still having trouble with this issue. Actually if one of you guys could send me a raw from your RD-1 that is working with ACDsee pro 2.5 i would be very thankful. My email address is tom -at- kmem.org
I tried to contact tech support on the issue as i'm very keen on getting this to work :
Here is what was sent, and what has been received so far :
Hi, all raw files from my camera open blank (all black) and can cause ACDsee to crash. Opening my file with Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop CS3 works fine. Other users on rangefinderforum claim their RD1 files open , but mine on the RD1s clearly dont.
I tried installing on 2 different computers to eliminate a computer problem and had the same problem.
OS = XP PRO. sp2
Acdsee version : latest trial version available from download section.
Could I perhaps send you a sample image?
Kind regards,
Tom

Hello Thomas,
Unfortunately I am unable to locate your information in our database. To continue helping you, could you please provide me with as much of the following information as possible.
Order ID:
Customer ID:
Invoice Number:
License Number:
If you do not have one of these four numbers, could you let me know if you moved and your street address has changed? Also, let me know if your email address has changed and if you remember roughly when you purchased the program? Perhaps different name on a credit card used during the original purchase? If you remember where or how you purchased the program (online or in a retail store) this would help me narrow the search for your information.
---------------------------
Hi, please don't turn down my request because I have not 'yet'
purchased the program.
I am more than willing to purchase the program if it suits my
workflow. The software claims it can read RAW files from the Epson RD1
but yet it doesn't. If I could send you a raw file so you could tell
me what's wrong, or issue a patch, I will buy this program straight
away. Without the ability to open RAW files of my main camera, it
simply becomes a program that I cannot use properly.
I was really keen on this program until I discovered this, and I
really don't want to be forced down the Adobe Lightroom route, but at
least it opens my RAW files.
I'm sure it's really simple, as a few people in RangeFinder Forum who
own the Epson RD1 camera have no problems at all. My guess is that you
are using the string of the camera model to process the file. Sending
you a file would be the easiest as I'm just guessing.
Other than that, a splended peice of software i've been looking for
for such a long time and I'd be really disapointed if you cannot help
me.
Kind regards,
Tom

Hello Thomas,
Unfortunately, we currently do not support the RAW files from the Epson RD1 however; The Developers are constantly working on updating the RAW decoder to support a greater number of RAW files. You can send me sample file from the Epson RD1 so I can forward it to the Developers so they can work on updating the decoder to support the RAW files from that camera.

Hi,
I'd be grateful if you could pass this on to the developers and keep
this ticket open.
According to your website you 'do' support the RD1 so I think this
would be a quick fix :
Please view this URL on your website :

Can't answer your question about the file type, but.............
I have used ACDSee for years and was considering going to the Pro but I found another program which does it all (and more) and it's free.
Try FastStone Image viewer.

Hi chaps
well i have to say i am very disapointed with acdsee and their support regarding my issue. As I had a bit of spare time on my hands i opened up the ERF file using hexedit and swapper R-D1s for R-D1 using 00 in replacement for the "s". This worked to my surprise so i thought of running a batch script to alter all my raw files using this
binmay -s "52 2d 44 31 73" -r "52 2d 44 31 00" -i infile -o outfile
but i could opt for something easier, just patch
C:\Program Files\ACD Systems\ACDSee Pro\2.5\PlugIns\ID_DCRaw.apl so that acdsee will now only read files from the R-D1s
anyway for something this simple ACDsee should have given a developer 10 minutes. so now because of this maybe the software does not deserve to be used.
