Advice on filters

I now have two 39mm lenses and I am needing filters for them.

First: Neutral density. I need this so I can use a narrow DOF in harsh light conditions as the M6 only has a 1/1000th shutter speed. I was considering the B+W 0.9, which is approximately 3 stops. Is this a good start or should I go with the 0.6 which is only 2 stops?

Second: The dreaded polarizer/RF combination. I can't afford the Leica system and I searched the forums and found this:

In general I use B+W filters, so I was wondering about the quality of this brand. The hot shoe adapter seems genius, and is much cheaper than other solutions I've seen. The question still remains if it is worth it though. How often do users here modify the position of the polarizer? I've only held a polarizer before and in a certain position it gives great colors. Is this the position that is always then used for that effect or will I have to change it if the lighting changes? Is the Kenko filter as high quality as B+W?

Supposedly, the polarizer is most effective (darkest sky) when turned so that the internal TTL meter gives the longest exposure. That makes good sense but might be very subtle to find correctly.

But I have no polarizer for my G2, so what do I know.

Which is why I am weary to try something new like the Kenko polarizers... Perhaps if I engrave the number system onto the B+W filter, I can then use it with the hot shoe finder?
