Al Kaplan has passed away :(

Hey Al...I miss your posts already....I hope we can meet again on the other side where I am sure you have found even better stuff than your M2-R ;) May your memory be eternal!

Sincerely,

Thomas

A while ago when the peanuts at P.net decided they didn't want him any more we received him with joy and he's been a huge bonus here since IMO. His vast knowledge and his biting wit permeated many threads and made them essential reading! :D

Now we have lost him .... and that's hard to take!

This is sad news indeed. I have enjoyed PN and RFF postings from Al for years, and he was always a prince among men. I'll miss his wisdom, generosity and photos. Condolences to his family.

This is very, very sad news. My condolences to his family. He certainly knew how to live life to the full. I think we can all learn from his example.

I'll miss having him around here

Very sad news indeed. I only knew him through his posts here and he didn't know me, but I learned a great deal from him and I'm very grateful for it. Thank you Al, I'm sorry that I didn't tell you.

So sad to hear the news...I met Al in person a year ago in Miami and I really enjoyed the talk that we had......I remember that he took a photo of us together (arm in arm) with his 21mm and his dirty Leica...he was such a cool guy....I will miss him for sure.....

There are few (if any) that have had as much impact and helped shape the personality of RFF as Al. It would be fitting to have a special RFF section or forum named in his honor.

It`s all been said. Like many here I always read his posts and we also swapped a few e mails. The thing I liked was his underlying approach to, and respect for, photography. Also his willingness to share and his sense of humour. What a dreadful shock. R.I.P
