Al Kaplan has passed away :(

Sad news. The outpouring of kind words and sympathy here is very touching. Condolences to his family and to his many, many friends.

So sad to have read that Al has passed away. I quite genuinely enjoyed his often frank and humorous musings, and I sincerely hope that his son and daughter find good use for his beaten M2.

Rest in peace Al, many thanks for your help.

Al was definitely a unique character. I can't help but feel we've lost not only a great guy but an important part of photographic history. One less person speaking a dying language, if you will.
Sorry to see him go.

I never knew Al, but I enjoyed his posts here on the forum. His insight and willingness to share are what helped make this forum so great.

al was there from the beginning. he's why i started off with a leica m2. how many people did he inspire to use rangefinders and film?

As a reader of his blog and one who learned from Al's postings on this forum in the short time Ive been on RFF , I cannot say how much Al will be missed.
From everything Ive read , Al's had a life many can only dream to have lived, and it's apparent that he his lived life like there was no tomorrow.

To Al Kaplan, a man I've never met in person ,but have nothing but respect for and I extend my condolences to his family. His wit and wisdom will be missed by all.

May he be at peace. Condolences to his family and close friends. Like others have mentioned, I only knew Al from this forum, I liked him, learned from him and sadly will miss his presence here.

Oh man. This place won't be the same without you. Rest in peace, Al.

In your remembrance, I will shoot a roll of film today.

In a way I'm not surprised at this very sad news from seeing the medical bulletins. After I read he went into an ICU I felt it was not good. I knew Al from his PN days and he was the same character over there as here; sage advice, lots of fun. What a great life and he'll be sorely missed by all his online friends. To his family, I'm sorry for your trouble.

Rest in Peace, Al. Condolences to family and freinds as he will surely be missed.

Bob
