Are there any alternative hoods that fit the 2,8cm Hektor? The intended hood, SOOHN, is a very expensive collectible.

I assume that the FIKUS adjustable would cause vignetting on the 28 Hektor ?
Rick's idea sounds like a good DIY - experiment with various card-board tubes or contruction-paper cones...

It does, the FIKUS fully collapse already causes some vignetting on a 35mm Elmar (certainly with another filter between them)
Looking at the SOOHN hood I think you're right and a cone shape is required.
Bab8barian's idea will look more professional on your camera 😉
I'll have to look into that, because I want a hood for my 28mm Hektor as well.

Does anyone make a replacement hood for the 28mm Hektor? I have trouble stomaching a hood that costs nearly as much as the lens itself! 🙂 It's bad enough what a matching auxiliary finder goes for.

According to my sources, the Hektor takes 34mm screw-in filters. Googling "34mm wide angle lens hoods" produces quite a few hits. There are few accessories so obscure that there isn't a Chinaman on Ebay selling them.

Odd, according to the "Leica Collector's Guide, 2nd Ed.", it uses A36 filters. The "Leica Pocket Book, 7th Ed.", also says A36. I'll hopefully be able to determine better in a couple days. This is probably the difference between interior and exterior diameters.
I'm wondering if a SOOTF filter adapter might work, at least enough to keep my finger out of the photo. 😀

Yes, A36 is the standard size "clamp-on" filter/hood forl the Elmars, Summars and Hektors. But for screw-in versions I think 34 should be about right.

I based my information on a 1964 edition of Matheson The Leica Way. I presume that, like other lenses such as the 5 cm Summar, it takes either 34 mm screw-in or A36 fall-off.
Off on a complete tangent, I came across this website a while back (looking for a 19 mm UV).

It’s the first mention I’d ever seen that the 3.5 cm Summaron takes 22 mm filters, and it’s true! (Also fits Kodak Retina). Now everyone will write in saying that it’s common knowledge.

That sounds like a book I should add to my library. I can't seem to find anything in a period copy of "The Leica Manual" (I have several editions).
Actually my 35mm is a f/2.8 Summaron, I've no idea on the filter size, and I'm using a screw in lens-hood from China. Actually taking a quick look, at least the M-Mount 35mm f/2.8 Summeron uses 39mm filters.
Digging deeper the "Leica Pocket Book" 7th Ed., the f/3.5 started as A36, and switched at some point to E39. The f/2.8 is just E39. That's good to know, I'm thinking of picking up a f/3.5 LTM lens, now that I'm using a IIIf a lot.

Further flexibility in choice of lens hoods can be had by using a stepping ring.
A trick I use is to mainly use 43mm as my standard for smaller diameter lens -37mm, 39mm, 40mm, 40.5m, 41mm etc. Lens hoods seem to be pretty readily available in a variety of configurations in 43mm diameter and using this as a standard means that one hood (or one hood type) can often serve for multiple lenses with the addition of the appropriate adapter ring. If the Hektor lens does accept a 34mm screw in hood then I have checked and confirmed that a 34mm to 43mm (or other diameter if you prefer) is available.
Including this one which I like very much though it might be a bit overpowering on the Hektor but I include it here mainly for interest. Also it is somewhat more expensive than the standard Chinese offerings which as you know cost no more than a paltry few bucks. This one is around $30.

Here's one from China that I got a few months ago, via ebay, for my Hektor 28. Seems to screw in and function just fine. Cheap, too.

Mine finally arrived yesterday. Took its sweet time, but that's what you get for ordering from China 😉
It feels solid enough.
While it does fit on the Hektor, it does not screw down all the way, as visible in MartinJames's photos. I suspect the thread pitch isn't quite the same between the hood and the lens.
Not sure if this will cause any vignetting on photos.
Will need to do a couple of tests.

I also bought a cheap hood from China that claims to be useful for the 28mm lens, but it seems way too deep for that focal length. I'm waiting to process the results with that hood, but meanwhile are there any other possibilities?

Antoine, I'd run some film through with the Chinese hood to see if there is any vignetting. If there is, it's easy enough to cleanly grind down the front edge with simple tools. I use a FISON (5cm) on my 35mm Elmar and have no vignetting.
